The Center for Women's and Gender Studies at West Virginia University invites applications for a Teaching Assistant Professor starting August 16, 2025. This is a 9-month, full-time, position with full benefits. Teaching Assistant Professor appointments have renewable terms of up to three years, with no limit on the number of terms. These positions are eligible for promotion (e.g., Teaching Assistant Professor to Teaching Associate Professor, etc.); however, promotion to senior ranks is not a requirement for institutional commitment and career stability.

The Center for Women's and Gender Studies, the academic home of women's and gender studies at WVU, offers a Graduate Certificate, a BA in Women's and Gender Studies, as well as undergraduate minors in Women's and Gender Studies and in LGBTQ Studies. The Center for Women's and Gender Studies is a part of the Department of Sociology and Anthropology. The Center is a multidisciplinary unit focused on intersectional and cross-disciplinary connections across the WVU campus. The Center is committed to promoting equitable representation among faculty, staff, and students, and to encouraging student engagement in the community. The Center supports graduate teaching assistants pursuing a variety of programs at WVU who are also enrolled in the WGST Graduate Certificate program. Faculty members have appointments in the LGBTQ Center and the Department of Geology and Geography, among others. Additional Faculty Associates across WVU connect the Center to multiple disciplines and colleges.

Responsibilities :

The teaching load is four (4) courses per semester or equivalents. The successful candidate will be expected to teach classes, both in-person and online, that complement the current offerings in the Center for Women's and Gender Studies. Candidates must be able to teach a variety of courses related to our programs. The successful candidate will also contribute to advising efforts in the Department. The candidate will be expected to serve the community, university, and profession.

Qualifications

Professional Qualifications :

The Center welcomes applicants who have a Ph.D. in Women's, Gender, or Sexuality studies or equivalent doctoral degree in a cognate field with at least 18 graduate credit hours in women's, gender, or sexuality studies by the time of appointment. Candidates with experience in collaborative or community-engaged projects are highly desired. ABD candidates will be considered but must have their PhD in hand by August 2025.

In addition, the candidate must have knowledge of undergraduate teaching using advanced pedagogical techniques, including adaptive, student-centered practices; knowledge of assessment-based advancement of curriculum and instruction; demonstrated excellent teaching skills; ability to contribute to undergraduate advising and student success initiatives; ability to develop new courses; excellent written and oral communication skills; and excellent interpersonal skills.
