What are the responsibilities and job description for the Nurse for West Virginia Governor’s School for the Arts position at West Virginia Wesleyan College?
POSITION: PART-TIME
The Governor’s School for the Arts, hosted at West Virginia Wesleyan College, seeks a licensed nurse practitioner (LPN) or registered nurse (RN) to join us for the 2025 GSA session.
The nurse must be available for the full duration of the camp (June 22 – July 13), including mandatory training before students arrive (June 20 – 21), as well as a day-long field trip to a nearby city. All tickets to shows, galleries, etc. will be paid for by the university. On-campus accommodations and all meals will be provided by the university for the duration of the GSA. West Virginia Wesleyan College will provide professional liability insurance for the duration of the GSA (coverage does not extend beyond activities related to the role).
Please note that the GSA is an intensive, three-week residential camp. While we ensure that all faculty and staff have scheduled “down time” built into their schedules, we are all “on call” throughout the duration of the camp.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Administering medications in the mornings, afternoons, and evenings
- Keep detailed records of students’ medications and ailments for the duration of the camp
- Attending to minor injuries and ailments (e.g. sprains, cuts, dehydration)
- Diagnosing minor ailments (e.g. colds & flu, diarrhea) and treating as necessary
- In some cases, accompanying sick students to our local Community Care clinic or St. Joseph’s hospital to receive further treatment (as needed)
Required Qualifications
- LPN or RN licensed in West Virginia
- Pass a background check and complete youth protection trainings
- Be capable of working long days and be “on call” at all times, in the event of a medical emergency
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with high school students
- Experience working at residency camps
- Working with students with IEP/504 plans
Expected Remuneration
$7000 – $9000, depending on qualifications
