Under general supervision, the Correctional Counselor I will function as a member of a team providing services to an assigned caseload of juvenile residents living in a unit within a WV juvenile correctional treatment facility. The work of the Correctional Counselor I will consist of entry level work by providing a variety of counseling, assessments, intakes, orientation, PREA counseling/education, group counseling, life skills, family counseling/transitional living, substance abuse counseling, therapeutic group counseling, large muscle movement, team building, coping skills, facilitate and attend MDT meetings, access with aftercare planning, lead in PBIS implementation and overall behavior modification to include input on medication management based on observable behaviors, diagnoses and assessments. Implementation of treatment utilizing YLS/LS/CMI and Casey life skills; administration evaluation of need and/or risk assessment. The person in this position will act as a role model for the residents, assist security staff with crisis intervention. Provide input to case manager position will act as a role model for the residents, assist security staff with crisis intervention. Provide input to case manager for recommendations to the courts for residents in our care and custody throughout various counties within the State of WV.

Training: A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in criminal justice, corrections, psychology, sociology, counseling, counseling and guidance, criminology, social work, education, therapeutic recreation or closely related field.
