Employee will be assigned to the Division of Land Restoration, Office of Special Reclamation North Region.
Duties include:
- Perform professional engineering work at the administrative and supervisory level, providing a wide variety of engineering services.
- Ensure all programmatic functions and duties comply with applicable state and federal laws, regulations, and policies.
- Direct the North Region and assign tasks to achieve program goals.
- Develop engineering designs and plans with professional (PE) certification for all Special Reclamation land and water reclamation projects in the Northern Region, or other assigned regions. Conduct on-site pre-bid and pre-construction conferences.
- Supervise and train subordinate engineering staff in the preparation of designs, documents, and engineering processes.
- Provide supervision and direction for OSR inspectors and contractors during contract execution and monitor reclamation work performance.
- Represent DEP in matters related to the area of responsibility.
- May serve as an alternate to the Engineer Chief in representing DEP on the Special Reclamation Fund Advisory Council.
- Attend state and regional meetings and forums concerning Acid Mine Drainage and land reclamation topics, such as:
- AMD Taskforce Symposium
- OSMRE Training
- Provide assistance as needed to the Deputy Director or Director in the area of assignment.
- Perform other duties as assigned and/or required.
- Update the database of sites and regularly report on the status of reclamation.
- Display proficient use of AutoCAD drafting software for completing design drawings.
- Prepare cost estimates for reclamation, both for initial liability and contractor bidding.
- Work with the program manager on the operation of water treatment sites with an NPDES discharge permit.
- Position requires travel within the Northern Region and other counties in the state.

- Regular attendance at the Philippi office is an essential part of this position.
- The recommended candidate will be subject to a search of his or her Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) prior to being hired and annually thereafter.

Training: Current Professional Engineer (PE) license issued by the West Virginia State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers.
AND
Experience: Eight (8) years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience as a licensed Professional Engineer in a responsible capacity in charge of engineering projects.
Note: The experience must have been acquired after the bachelor’s degree but may have occurred before or after registration as a professional engineer.
