The Individual in this position is responsible for, under general supervision, reporting to the source water assessment program of the Office of Environmental Health Services. This position is critical in assuring compliance with Federal and State rules, regulation, guidance and policies to meet the program's primacy responsibilities as delegated to the DOH. Duties include: Designing and/or selecting of mathematical models and applicable computer software; reviewing and approving locally developed source water protection program plans; monitoring design, construction, and other field activities within each source water and wellhead protection area to assure existing and future wells or surface intakes are afforded maximum protection; operating a geographical information system (GIS) for use by and integrated with other State and Federal agencies; researching, developing and approving methodology (Using Higher Mathematics, Models, Hydro Geology, and Geological Principles) to scientifically reestablish wellhead protection and source water areas for each public drinking water supply; preparing and interpreting engineering, hydro geological and other highly technical reports; developing, adopting, and implementing laws, regulations, and design standards relating to water wells, wellhead protection, groundwater protection and certification of monitoring well drillers.
