What are the responsibilities and job description for the Investigator 1 - DCR - Statewide position at West Virginia?
This position will be responsible for conducting investigations primarily at a dedicated Division of Corrections and Rehabilitation (DCR) facility closest to where they live and will travel to other DCR facilities. This position will be responsible for completing detailed reports based upon the investigations conducted and make recommendations to administration based upon the evidence obtained. This position will prepare detailed violation reports on inmates and testify at internal inmate magistrate court hearings.
Employee should have good verbal and written communication skills. Will exercise some latitude in interpreting statutes, regulations and policies. Basic computer skills and day and overnight travel is required. Work may require use of a personal automobile for travel. Involves direct contact with inmates, staff and public as well as facility management, prosecuting attorneys and law enforcement personnel. Will be required to attend mandatory training.
Employee is subject to on-call status during non-business hours. May be required to deal with situations which are potentially dangerous. May be required to qualify with and carry a duty weapon. Will perform related work and assignments as required. Other duties as assigned.
In accordance with SPB 3088 effective 10/7/23, $5000 will be added to the minimum starting rate of pay for all classifications within a Critical Vacancy Pay Supplemental Facility. Critical Vacancy Pay Facilities: Huttonsville Correctional Center and Jail, Mount Olive Correctional Complex and Jail, Western Regional Jail and Corrections Facility, Northern Correctional Facility (including Ohio County Correctional Center), Northern Regional Jail and Correctional Facility, Chick Buckbee Juvenile Center, Vicki Douglas Juvenile Center, Potomac Highlands Regional Jail and Correctional Facility, and Eastern Regional Jail and Corrections Facility (including Martinsburg Correctional Center) (SPB 3088)
Employees in this classification shall receive an annual base building pay differential each fiscal year of $250 after completing one year of service.
If an employee is hired into a Critical Vacancy Pay Facility (CVPF) and leaves the facility, the additional pay differential of $5,000 shall be removed from their salary, unless transferring to another CVPF.

Training: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
OR
Substitution: Additional experience as described below may substitute for the required training at the rate of one (1) year of experience for every thirty (30) semester hours of training.
AND
Experience: One (1) year of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience in law enforcement or investigative work or in determining eligibility for credit, insurance or government programs.
Special Requirements: Possession of a valid driver's license and the availability of an automobile is required. Qualification to possess and use firearms may be required.
Full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience in the Correctional Officer series will substitute for the required training and experience on a year for year basis.
