Job Summary:

  • Oversees all internal and external catering events with quality food and innovative service; assesses and supports school kitchens for efficient operation; ensures meals are attractively prepared and produced; implements financial strategies to increase revenue and reduce costs; provides administrative support to the Director of Accounting Services, ensures compliance with all applicable district, state, and federal regulations.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in related majors including food and nutrition, food service management, dietetics, family and consumer sciences, nutrition education, culinary arts, business, or a related field; OR
  • Bachelor’s degree in any academic major, and at least 2 years of relevant school nutrition programs experience; OR

Associate’s degree or equivalent educational experience, with an academic major in specific areas (see above) and at least 2 years of relevant school nutrition program experience.

  • Minimum of three (3) years of food service management and production experience.
  • Valid ServSafe Food Safety Certification.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Proven experience in the operation of all food service equipment, clearing equipment, and Point of Sales systems.

Duties and Responsibilities (including but may not be limited to):

  • Maintain a valid ServSafe Manager certification and follow principles of safe and sanitary food handling, preparation, and storage, including recording food temperatures during preparation and cooling.
  • Supervise staff including participating in employee selection, training, job assignments, customer service training, motivation, counseling, and disciplining employees.
  • Manage food service activities and operations, including but not limited to food and supply ordering, food production, food safety, equipment maintenance and repairs, and service of meals
  • In the absence of a building Food Services Manager, ensure meal operations run smoothly and are in compliance with USDA program requirements.
  • Collaborates with the CFOO to increase revenues, decrease costs, test new products, establish processes to meet generational food service needs, and develop internal and external services.
  • Conducts continuous on-the-job training for food service personnel; instructs and facilitates professional development training in kitchen productivity, food safety regulations, and customer service. Serves as coach and mentor to all food service personnel.
  • Manage the preparation of food within an established production system following standardized recipes, preparation and service methods, safe food handling techniques, and appropriate use of equipment.
  • Manage internal and external catering services including the development of catering menu, provide innovative service, maintain profitability, labor utilization, and staff training. Coordinate catering requisitions. Maintain catering accounts, calculate costs, provide billing within 7 working days; communicate with Business office and clients regarding late payments.
  • Attend training, meetings, and workshops as required to enhance job knowledge and skills; is an active member of the local School Nutrition Association chapter. Complete annual Continuing Education hours as mandated by Child Nutrition regulations.
  • In the absence of the CFOO, the Food Services Supervisor communicates with the Director of Accounting Services to make necessary management decisions as the need arises.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or directed by the CFOO and/or Director of Accounting Services.

Work Environment:

  • Typical food service kitchen environment.
  • Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions generally, office setting year-round.
  • Ability to work as a member of a team.
  • Must be courteous and able to effectively communicate with staff vendors and community.
  • Must be professional, cooperative, congenial, team and service-oriented.
  • Ability to work in an environment with frequent interruptions.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to reach above and below the waist.
  • Ability to use fingers to pick, feel, and grasp objects.
  • Ability to use both hands for repetitive motion.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, and twist the body required.
  • Ability to lift and/or carry food, supplies, and/or papers weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to mostly stand and walk/move throughout the work environment with some sitting.
