Compensation range: $161,000 to $215,000. Based on our Davis, CA office location. (West Yost uses geographic salary differentials that would apply for candidates in other regions).

**This is a Hybrid role with 3 days in the office and 2 days remote.**

ENGINEERING MANAGER I - WATER INFRASTRUCTURE
Basic Job Function
Engineering Manager represents achievement at the highest level in technical expertise, design, project planning, project engineering, management, client relations, and/or business development. Performance of each of these responsibilities is expected to be at a commensurate level with minimal supervision. Additionally, the Engineering Manager is expected to mentor Principal, Senior and Associate Engineers and other subordinate staff in the skills and practices necessary for success in these areas of responsibility. Maintain accurate records of time spent on each job and phase.
Essential Duties and Accountabilities (in order of importance)
- Lead engineer on projects.
- Interact with clients and other project managers to build credibility, trust and strong relationships that lead to ongoing project opportunities. Marketing and business development efforts to bring in new work for self and others. Develop and maintain client contact before, during, and after project completion. Cultivate client relationships through organizational involvement and by direct contact.
- Review designs and drawings for compliance with engineering principles, firm standards, customer contract requirements, and related specifications.
- Report preparation, coordination of report production, and development of engineering designs.
- Plan and coordinate project staff, provide technical guidance, and assign specific work tasks to staff members. Work closely with other engineers and managers to balance workload demands amongst current staff. Make recommendations to senior management as to additional staff and resource needs.
- Participate in seminars, meetings, and training sessions to stay apprised of new developments in the field.
- Review projects/activities to determine timeframe and actions needed for success. Maintain four-month workload projections for all projects under personal management.
- Prepare opinions of probable cost on current and new designs.
- Develop and maintain the engineering team, while identifying/implementing improvements in processes. Mentors engineer staff on technical matters and procedures and acts as a technical resource.
Qualifications
- Required Education and/or Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil/Environmental Engineering.
- 10 years’ experience in civil engineering consulting or engineering management.
- Excellent writing and communication skills.
- Experience with CAD and GIS.
- PE licensure in the State of California or ability to obtain PE licensure within 6 months of hire. PE licensure in other states that the firm is actively practicing may also be considered.
Preferred Education and/or Experience
- Master’s degree in Civil/Environmental Engineering.
- Emphasis on environmental/water resources engineering.
- Ability to process engineering calculations unaided, compile plans and organize basic designs.
- Proven ability to managing multiple priorities and deadlines.
- This position may require frequent out-of-office travel with occasional evening and overnight assignments.
- Must effectively communicate with all project team members.
- Proven ability to write technical information using appropriate grammar, punctuation and spelling for concise reader-friendliness and clarity.
- Maintaining professional competency may require attending education classes and seminars, reading professional publications, and attending professional society meetings.
- Involvement with and leadership of professional societies, and community-based organizations, and presentation of training seminars, both in-house and at professional society meetings, are expected.
- Contributions to technical journals are encouraged.
- Must demonstrate mastery of regulatory compliance issues as they relate to design specialty area(s). These may include CEQA compliance, domestic water regulations, wastewater discharge permitting, NPDES permitting, Caltrans encroachment permitting, wetlands issues, streambed alteration permits, building codes, municipal zoning and development regulations, among others.
