Compensation range: $28.34hr to $42.51hr. Based on our Davis, CA office location. (West Yost uses geographic salary differentials that would apply for candidates in other regions).
LOCATION: Our preference is for this person to sit Davis or Sacramento. We will consider any of our CA office locations - (https://www.westyost.com/locations/ ).
**This is a Hybrid role with 3 days in the office and 2 days remote.**

GIS TECHNICIAN
Basic Job Function
The GIS Technician provides GIS support to staff and assists the GIS Manager with both internal company and client project work. The GIS Technician also may be called upon to assist in developing, implementing, modifying, and supporting a variety of GIS applications, custom tools, and geodatabases as well as other integrated information systems to meet the business needs of the firm.
Essential Duties and Accountabilities (in order of importance)
- Respond to and provide assistance with internal and external clients for geospatial analyses and mapping requests.
- Locate, download, create, edit, and manage vector and raster datasets.
- Assist staff with GIS training and troubleshooting. Develop training materials and Standard Operating Procedure documents.
- Learn and apply emerging GIS technologies continually to improve firm services.
- Review and evaluate the staff GIS work in a manner that is conducive to independent judgment, high performance, and personal accountability.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with subordinates, peers, superiors, vendor representatives, outside agencies, and clients.
- Provide timely and thorough communication via (video calls, chat messages, email, work order notes and in person meetings).

Qualifications
Required Education and/or Experience
- Associates degree in GIS, Geography, Earth Science, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field from an accredited college or university, or equivalent.
- Five (5) years of experience in GIS performing data management, analysis, and cartographic representation.
- An understanding of geospatial topics and best practices including proper projections, linear referencing, spatial analysis techniques, data management, and web service administration.
- Cartographic skills that depict a clear understanding of map composition and symbology principles with the ability to produce maps for reports, meetings, posters, etc.
- Experience working with Microsoft Excel, Access, and SQL Server databases.
- A working knowledge of Enterprise-Level Databases and applications (ArcGIS Enterprise), ArcGIS Online, and database connections and how they can be used in desktop and mobile mapping environments.
- Familiarity with ESRI software including ArcGIS Pro, Portal/Online, Survey123, Field Maps, Dashboards, Story Maps, and Experience Builder.
Preferred Education and/or Experience
- General knowledge of geology and groundwater analysis, water/wastewater/storm water utility operational systems, or hydrologic/hydraulic processes.
- Familiarity with design, customization, and implementation of GIS-related apps.
- Experience with Python and other applicable scripting languages (SQL, Arcade, Java, VBScript, etc.).
- Experience working in a technical support or IT “help desk” capacity, responding to service tickets and documenting workflows while keeping management and staff updated with status notes.
- Experience with GIS-CAD integration workflows.
