SUMMARY:
Westbay Community Action’s Children’s Center is looking for a Full Time Teacher for our Early Learning Center. Our program includes Infant, Toddler, Preschool and Pre-K classrooms.
Responsible for all aspects of the daily classroom environment according to quality indicators included in ITERS and CLASS guidelines. The teacher is responsible for planning and implementing curriculum. You will oversee staff, classroom volunteers, and children to ensure their safety and well-being.
This is a full time, 40-hour per week position and the rate of pay is $18.00/hour.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School diploma or higher with a vocational concentration in childcare and two years experience in a licensed/approved Early Childhood Program
- Rhode Island Early Learning and Development Standards training-relevant to the position.
- Be willing to continue education through relevant DHS approved trainings
- Two years of supervisory experience in a teacher role
- Two years of teaching experience with infant, toddler, or preschool-age children
- CPR/First Aid certified or willing to obtain within 90 days of employment and training in the use of the Heimlich Maneuver
- Meet DCYF and BCI criminal background check requirements
- Have required immunizations
SPECIFIC DUTIES

Plan and implement daily activities according to approved curricula and developmentally appropriate practices (prepare Plan Book in advance)
- Attend IEP meetings when invited
- Devise strategies to engage parents as partners in education (to ensure an optimal learning path for their child) and in participating in center activities
- Supervise children in all activities, environments, and settings at all times
- Document daily progress for each child (child portfolio), prepare progress reports, and communicate results to parents regularly.
- Meet formally with parents regarding their child’s progress a minimum of twice per school year
- Supervise, train, and evaluate classroom staff and volunteers
- Maintain accurate records of attendance, progress, behavior, and other required information
- Organize and maintain space and equipment, providing an inviting, safe, and nurturing environment – following health, safety, and wellness guidelines
- Participate in the annual open house
- Identify the needs of children and alert the Childcare Director of the support needed
