The Westborough Public Schools is seeking a talented School Nurse

to join our nursing department at the Fales Elementary School

beginning in the 2025-2026 school year.

Job Title:
School Nurse

Reports to: Principal, Nurse Leader

Department: Nursing

Work Year: 184 days, School-year position

FSLA Status: Exempt, Unit A

Salary Range: Unit A Salary Scales


Job Goal:
The School Nurse manages and coordinates health services for students within the school setting, while interacting with their educational goals, personal health, and public health needs. Responsibilities include nursing services, collaboration, health education, and community health and emergency planning.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education:
    • Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in Nursing from an accredited college/university
  • Professional Certification Required:
    • Valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of Massachusetts (M.G.L. c.71, s.53)
    • Current CPR certification/AED training from a recognized provider (such as the American Red Cross or American Heart Association) (required)
    • School nurse educator's license from the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (preferred but not required)
  • Specialized Knowledge: pediatric nursing, child development, cultural proficiency, social-emotional learning, anti-bias training
  • CORI and Fingerprinting: All appointments are conditional based on a satisfactory CORI and SAFIS Background Check per 603 CMR 51.00.
  • Preferred Experience:
    • Experience in Pediatric nursing
    • Experience with English Language Learners in a diverse public school setting
    • Experience with students with special needs, including students with emotional, behavioral, and/or learning challenges
    • Highly desirable to have experience with:
      • SNAP software
      • PowerSchool software
      • Google applications (gmail, docs, spreadsheets, etc.)

CENTRAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB (MAY INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO):

  • Manage and coordinate health services for students within the school setting, while interacting with their educational goals, personal health, and public health needs
  • Assess children for a wide range of physical and social/emotional/behavioral illnesses and develop programs to prevent the spread of disease and promote wellness
  • Provide medically prescribed interventions, including medication administration and treatments
  • Provide first aid/emergency care to students and staff
  • Collaborate with students, parents, members of the school-based team, and community health care providers and agencies to optimize student healthcare and learning
  • Promote positive safety practices within and outside of the school building, and ensure that the school has an effective medical emergency plan
  • Ensure timely documentation of all encounters with students
  • Maintain comprehensive and confidential health records for students that are compliant with federal, state and local regulations.
  • Use data collection to plan and evaluate the school health program
  • Remain proficient in current technology for health record database used throughout the system (SNAP)
  • Organize and implement state-mandated programs such as immunization surveillance and screening programs
  • Submit state-mandated reports and surveys as required by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health
  • Participate in IEP and 504 planning and implementation as needed
  • Serve as member of pertinent committees and teams supporting the school (for example, Building Leadership Team, Crisis Team, Health Advisory)
  • Train staff on EpiPen use, Life Threatening Allergy safety, and other health-related concerns as needed
  • Participate in professional development activities, internal and external, that meet district expectations and the requirements for licensure recertification
  • Any other relative duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The School Nurse does not have supervisory responsibilities for other staff, except to direct any interns who may be assigned to his/her/their clinic.


SALARY AND BENEFITS:

Salary, benefits, and responsibilities per contract between the Westborough School Committee and the Westborough Education Association.
