Summary: The position assists individuals in managing their mental health and behavioral challenges by providing support in the community. This role is vital to improving the well-being of individuals by helping them develop coping strategies, engage in positive social interactions, and access necessary resources. The BHT will work under the supervision of licensed professionals, supporting clients through structured community-based programs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned to meet business needs.
- Client Support: Engage with individuals who experience mental health and/or behavioral challenges, offering guidance and emotional support to enhance their daily functioning and quality of life.
- Community Engagement: Actively participate in the delivery of community-based activities aimed at encouraging social participation, skill development, and self-reliance. Assist in promoting a sense of inclusion and connection for clients.
- Behavioral Monitoring: Observe and record client behavior, interactions, and progress in treatment plans. Provide real-time feedback and report any changes in behavior or concerns to clinical staff.
- Treatment Assistance: Collaborate with clinical teams to implement individualized care plans, focusing on skill-building, emotional regulation, and overall behavioral improvement.
- Resource Coordination: Help clients access local resources, including housing, employment opportunities, medical care, and social services, by providing transportation or accompanying them as needed.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate, up-to-date records on client progress, participation in activities, and any significant events or changes in behavior. Ensure all documentation complies with organizational and regulatory standards.
- Crisis Management: Provide immediate support during emotional or behavioral crises by utilizing de-escalation techniques and, when necessary, assisting in emergency interventions until professional help arrives.
- Maintains confidentiality of all information and complies with HIPAA regulations
- Comply with federal, state and company policies, procedures and regulations.
- Demonstrates knowledge of and supports Westbrook Health Services mission, vision, values, policies and procedures, operating instructions, confidentiality standards and code of ethical behavior.
Qualification Requirements:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- At least 1 year of experience working in a behavioral health setting, mental health field, or related human services position. Previous experience in community-based work or social services is a plus.
- Knowledge of mental health disorders, behavioral health treatment, and community-based resources.
- Ability to work with diverse populations and demonstrate cultural sensitivity.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to build rapport with clients and work collaboratively in a team setting.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to manage challenging behaviors with patience and professionalism, employing crisis management and de-escalation strategies.
- Flexibility and willingness to work in a variety of community settings, including homes, community centers, and local service providers.
- Valid driver's license is required for travel to client locations or service points utilizing a company vehicle
Preferred Skills:
- Experience in case management, social services, or mental health settings.
- Familiarity with trauma-informed care practices.
