What are the responsibilities and job description for the Law Enforcement Assisted Diversion Peer Recovery Support Specialist position at Westbrook Health Services, Inc?
LEAD is a substance use diversion service that provides a way for public safety officials to work with behavioral health providers by diverting low-level drug offenders to treatment and support services, rather than jail and prosecution. Instead of arrest and prosecution, LEAD participants are linked to trauma informed intensive case management and therapeutic services. Lead Coordinators work with the participants to connect them to intensive interventions such as detox, Assertive Community Treatment (ACT), residential treatment, comprehensive case management, medication assisted treatment (MAT), transportation and other support services.
Target Population:
- Adult men and women (ages 18 ) with a history of low- level criminal behavior related to drug abuse, individuals arrested for low level drug offenses and those arrested for sex selling to support their drug use.
Education and/or Experience:
- High School Diploma or GED, prior computer experience using computerized Medical Records and scheduling systems is preferred, but not required.
- Must have PRSS certification for West Virginia prior to start
- Incumbent must also possess basic math skills.
Position Details:
- Initiate and sustain individuals in recovery from substance use, abuse and/or addiction.
- Promote individual’s recovery by acting as a guide/mentor for overcoming personal and environmental obstacles that jeopardize their recovery.
- Help individuals discover, access, and utilize ways to remain substance free or reduce the harm associated with their substance use behaviors.
- Link and refer individuals to resources for harm reduction, detoxification, treatment, family support and education, and local or online support groups.
- Assist individuals with creating a change plan for their recovery and serve as an accountability partner for following the plan.
- Support positive change by offering hope and help to anyone, including persons involved in treatment, to avoid relapse, build community support for recovery and work on life goals.
- Provide supportive counseling services within the scope of training and competencies.
- Document activities and services in a complete accurate and timely manner according to regulatory agency’s regulations and Westbrook policy.
- Maintain a level of service delivery consistent with Westbrook expectations and standards.
- Work with staff, consumers, and others in a professional, cooperative, ethical, respectful, and effective manner.
- Comply with federal, state and company policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Maintain confidentiality of all consumer information and comply with HIPAA and 42 CFR part 2 regulations.
- Maintain a level of attendance consistent with Westbrook Health Services’ policy.
- Demonstrate knowledge of and support Westbrook Health Services’ mission, vision, values, policies and procedures, operating instructions, confidentiality standards and code of ethical behavior.

- Must have State Peer Certification
- Must have a minimum of 24 months sobriety and no recent law enforcement involvement

Physical Requirements: Work is performed in an office/ community environment and requires the ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards. Must have the ability to walk short distances, and/ or drive a vehicle to deliver and pick up materials. Must be able to lift 20 pounds.
