What are the responsibilities and job description for the English Teacher High Levels (ESL) Sunday 8 Am to 2:00 PM position at Westbury Language Center- Westbury NY?
As an ESL teacher our roles and responsibilities are as follows:
-Plan & carry out lessons
-Evaluate students through written assessments & observations
-Follow course outlines & methodology as set forth through the program directors
-Take attendance
-Come to class on time
-Have materials & supplies as well as classroom set up well before the time class begins.
-Maintain positive & healthy repertoire with students.
-Come to all scheduled staff meetings
-Encourage student participation in classes
-Let students know how they are doing (both good or bad)
-Address issues in classes or with students that may arise & seek to resolve
-Be observant of students who may not be progressing-and/or are in the wrong class & may do better in another class.
-Suggest other classes to students who may benefit from higher or lower levels
-Motivate students, praise students when its needed
-Assign & check homework
-Assign projects based on level, check projects, have students ask questions during project presentations
-Let students know before hand when school is closed for holidays, vacations, snow days...etc.
-Be culturally sensitive with students.
-Let students know if and when they pass the level, give certificates
-Create final exams, administer, check & give back to students, file in the office
-Be observant of which students may need testing as per the office, let tester know
-Be respectful of students, speak to them respectfully as we would want to be treated.
-Send lesson plans weekly via email
-Complete 12 hours of online professional development hours online
-Make sure students are following rules of school, no cell phones, no gum, no food in class, speaking English only
-Monitor students through oral practice, walk around and offer help during practice times
-Correct, but don't over correct students
-Speak to students about issues that arise OUT of the class in a private setting, not during class time.
-Make sure students have missing material, topics, homework during times of absence
-Be available during break time to answer questions, assist if copies are needed or if additional help is needed.
-Follow attendance policies, let students know if they are they have too many absences
-Check passes when students register, make sure all students have a pass and no one is sitting in class without a pass
-Make any copies needed BEFORE class time
-Send tests for printing to office at least 3 days in advance
-Evaluate & self-reflect
-Know the material, look over lesson plans in advance
-Utilize appropriate practices as designed by program directors in the classroom
-Maintain a neutral student-teacher centered classroom.
-Offer students extra help if needed & make arrangements to come in earlier if necessary.
-Offer to help students with further clarification or anything they need through email.
-Maintain student -teacher relationships & keep our private lives private.
-Sign in Teacher attendance Book daily to keep track of our time
-As a class, complete job applications and file in office
-Complete "End of session" report for students' grades, file in office
-Use rubrics in class for each & every students and notify students of their grades & if they passed the level in order to register for next level.
