GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION
The Medication Aide position requires attention to detail, the ability to follow standardized processes, and efficient management of the ordering, storage, preparation, and assistance with the delivery of medication. Depending on daily shift requirements, this may include oversight, insurance of and/or the actual processing of physician scripts, medication refills and new orders.
The Medication Aide reports to the Medication Supervisor and consults with her peers for clarification and assistance to successfully effect the assistance with the medication needs of the residents.
GENERAL TASKS
Every attempt has been made to outline all of the details of this position. However, there may be other tasks inherent in the position that may not be listed below.
- Accurately pour and endorse assistance with medication of each individual.
- Ensure consistency between the physician prescriptions, blister packs and medications poured for each resident.
- Ensure timely and accurate medication orders and medication renewals.
- Review medication refill log to compare with medication in storage cabinets.
- Review of “no-refill” orders in the refill log and faxing of requests to MDs.
- Review of receipt, storage and documentation of medications delivered.
- Communicate with the Medication Supervisor to clarify and ensure entitlements, prescriptions, and deliveries.
- Maintain medical and medication information on all residents in their designated file.
- Report residents who missed or refused medications to supervisor and case management.
- Attend at all mandatory scheduled in-service training programs.
COMPLETES ALL OTHER INHERENT AND LOGICAL TASKS AND THOSE
ASSIGNED BY THE IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR.
Minimum Requirements of the Job
- Be at least 18 years of age.
- Post high school course work in medical services or college degree preferred.
- Able to read, write, and communicate clearly in the English language.
- Familiar with the needs of the infirm and elderly.
- Be self-directed and able to complete work in time allotted.
- Be well organized.
- Work in concert with support staff of 6 individuals.
