Westchester Summer Day Camp is located on the Long Island Sound in Mamaroneck, NY on a 26- acre campus.
Our 500 campers come from all over Westchester County, NYC, and beyond to spend their summer at our program. We are a service-driven day camp program for the Jewish community, providing superior staff leader to child ratio, flexible scheduling, a daily hot lunch, and a wide variety of summer activities including swimming, boating, challenge course featuring a climbing wall and full ropes course, nature programs, arts & crafts, music, sports and lots more.
We are seeking a passionate and experienced individual to serve as Boating Supervisor at our camp. This individual will help facilitate our boating program on the Long Island Sound. All boating staff must have current certification in American Red Cross Waterfront Lifeguard Training, First Aid and CPR for the Professional Rescuer. A boat license and/or captain's licence is required to operate the rescue boats. This role reports to the Director of Summer Program.
Responsibilities include:
- Oversee the use of kayaks, canoes, row boats, and/or paddle boats on our beach front property on the Long Island Sound.
- Have a clear understanding of the Long Island Sound, the weather, and the tide. Conduct daily checks of the NOAA forecast as well as the marine forecast for the western Long Island Sound.
- Oversee the implementation of the boating safety plan
- Supervise the beach staff
- Assist in beach set up, cleanup, gear & equipment maintenance, safety and Westchester Department of Health compliance.
- Must arrive before campers in the morning and leave after campers are dismissed in the afternoon.
- Additional duties: 1 late night activity and at times helping the pools with lifeguard duty
Requirements:
- Must hold an active USCG License (The operator would need to meet the requirements of NYS Safe Boater Law Boating Education - NYS Parks, Recreation & Historic Preservation which requires all operators to have a safety certificate)
- Experienced in working with children, adolescents and young adults
- 3 years of relevant work experience
- Demonstrate leadership to ensure the safety of all campers and staff while on/ near the waterfront.
- Possesses high energy, focus and interest in working with children
- Self-driven and motivated, a quick learner
- Must be extremely dependable and be able to work quickly and accurately
- Weekend/night availability as needed
Salary Range: $8,000-$10,000 for the summer season, June 22, 2025 - Aug 20, 2025.
