Westchester Hebrew High School (grades 9-12) seeks a dedicated and passionate ELA teacher for the 2025-26 academic year.
The ideal candidate will inspire and educate students to develop strong reading, writing, speaking and critical thinking skills. The curriculum encompasses global classics and contemporary works, promoting critical and creative thinking through various activities. Writing is viewed as a process, focusing on brainstorming, drafting, and revising. By graduation, students will be proficient in multiple genres, including analytical, personal, and persuasive essays, as well as creative writing. Small class sizes allow teachers to engage with students to ensure that each student reaches their potential. Responsibilities
- Instructional Responsibility: Develop and execute dynamic, curriculum-aligned instructional experiences in English Language Arts, encompassing comprehensive exploration of literature, writing skills, language mechanics, and vocabulary development.
- Student Interaction: Create a welcoming and inclusive classroom environment that empowers students to actively participate, think critically, and engage in meaningful, respectful dialogue.
- Assessment: Construct thoughtful assessment strategies that systematically track student learning, provide constructive and timely feedback, and strategically adapt instructional approaches to support individual student growth.
- Personalized Learning: Implement flexible teaching methodologies that accommodate varied learning styles, challenge advanced students, and provide targeted support for students requiring additional academic assistance.
- Professional Collaboration: Actively contribute to departmental and school-wide curriculum development, resource sharing, and collaborative professional learning initiatives to enhance collective educational practices.
- Family Engagement: Maintain transparent and proactive communication with families, providing regular insights into student academic progress, achievements, and classroom learning experiences.
Qualifications
Educational Requirements:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in English Education, English Literature, Secondary Education, or a closely related field
- Experience with AP English a plus
Experience:
- 1-3 years teaching experience preferred
Knowledge and Skills:
- Deep understanding of English Language Arts curriculum standards
- Demonstrated expertise in: literature analysis, writing instruction, language development strategies
- Proficiency in educational technology and learning management systems
- Strong classroom management skills
- Excellent communication skills
