Nursing Aide Training - NAT
Summary: This position will participate in a clinical practicum designed to provide nursing students enrolled in a nursing program with the ability to work with a Registered Nurse to gain experience in performing patient care duties and other related functions. This involves a temporary appointment only for the duration of the training period.
EXAMPLES OF WORK: (Illustrative Only)
Receives training under the supervision of a registered nurse in the following:
Clinical:
Delivers patient care to assigned patients;
Carries out other assigned nursing duties;
Observes and reports to the nurse, changes in the patient's condition;
Records the results of routine patient monitoring on appropriate hospital forms;
Communicates patient care outcomes to the nurse;
Assists the Registered Nurse in identifying and addressing the educational needs of patients and families;
Participates in patient-centered conferences;
Systems Maintenance:
Assists in maintaining a safe and orderly environment;
Utilizes appropriate channels of communication;
Advocates Patient Bill of Rights;
Staff Development:
Participates in unit and departmental meetings;
Participates in in-service programs;
May use computer applications or other automated systems such as spreadsheets, word processing, and calendar, e-mail and database software in performing work assignments?
Accesses protected health information (PHI) in accordance with departmental assignments and guidelines defining levels of access (i.e. incidental vs. extensive).
MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Possession of a high school or equivalency diploma, and must be currently enrolled in an approved professional nursing program* which must have included successful completion of the Fundamentals of Nursing course. Certified in Basic Life Support from the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross.
