Education/Experience
The qualified applicant will have earned a High School Diploma (including IEP Diploma) or an Equivalency Diploma. Prior experience with developmentally disabled children in an educational or recreational setting is preferred by not required. This position is directly responsible to the classroom teacher or teacher assistant in the absence of the teacher.
1:1 paraprofessionals provide services that directly impact upon a student’s learning environment by providing non-instructional services that support both the efforts of the teacher and teaching assistant. As a result, they release the instructional staff from these necessary tasks and, therefore, increase their time with the students.

Essential Functions Statement(s)
- To assist the classroom staff in non-teaching (non-instructional) duties such as managing materials and equipment, general housekeeping, attending to the physical needs of the child, supervising the student and performing other services which are determined and supervised by the teacher.
- Assist with the arrival and departure of the child to and from the buses.
- Set up equipment and materials necessary for lessons planned by the teacher or teaching assistant.
- Properly store all equipment and materials after use.
- Keep the classroom, including all instructional equipment, neat, clean, and in good order.
- Set up snack and lunch areas for the child, and to insure that these areas are properly cleaned after meals.
- Assist an individual child who has difficulty or who is unable to feed or toilet him/herself under the direction of, and supervised by, the teacher and/or teacher assistant.
- Assist in dressing and undressing the child who has difficulty with this task.
- Escort the child to and from activities.
- Assist in moving and/or lifting the child when necessary.
- Participate in all in-service training programs.
- In addition to the above and at the discretion of the classroom teacher, the 1:1 paraprofessional may be assigned other duties according to their level of training and ability, or in the absence of their assigned student.
