Education
The qualified applicant will hold at least a Bachelor's Degree and a valid Teacher Certificate in Special Education from an accredited institution. It is expected that the candidate will pursue Professional Certification as soon as possible if the candidate does not hold such certification. The candidate will have five (5) years to obtain Professional Certification. The qualified candidate will show evidence of continued graduate study leading towards Professional Certification and Masters Degree completion. If the candidate holds Professional Certificate he/she must complete Professional Development every five (5) years.
Experience
The qualified candidate will have demonstrated successful experience with disabled children in addition to the required student and/or practicum teaching.

Essential Functions Statement(s)
- To implement an individualized education program according to the specific needs of each child attending.
- To assign and supervise Teaching Assistants, Aides and volunteers working within the classroom.
- To work cooperatively with other disciplines in the delivery of support services.
- To supervise student and practicum teachers as they are assigned.
- To complete an initial assessment of each child with available materials on order to confirm or determine accurate current levels of functioning.
- To insure the establishment of realistic long and short term goals and objectives according to the results of the initial assessment and in comparison with information received from the referring school district.
- To apply accepted methods of teaching in order to successfully realize the goals established.
- To periodically re-evaluate progress of the children assigned.
- To present information as requested on the children in attendance, and to work cooperatively with, the Clinical Education Team.
- To develop and implement daily plans as relating to the individual needs of the children.
- To establish and maintain an accurate log on each child.
- To maintain at least weekly documented written or phone contact with the parents of the children.
- To plan and conduct, in cooperation with Social Work and in conjunction with the Education Coordinator or his/her designee, parent conference, including representatives from other disciplines and referring school districts.
- To complete periodic written progress reports to be sent to the parent and school district.
- To attend local school district Committee for Special Education annual review meetings as assigned by the Education Coordinator.
- To perform their duties appropriate to a special education classroom teacher that may be assigned by the Education Coordinator or his/her designee.
- To work cooperatively with representatives of Colleges and Universities in the implementation of effective programs for student and practicum teachers assigned.
- To assist representatives of Colleges and Universities in completing an accurate evaluation of student and practicum teachers.
- To assign members of the classroom staff to specific activities planned by the teacher leading to the achievement of the stated goals and objectives for the children attending.
- To conduct at least weekly classroom staff meetings in order to evaluate the effectiveness of member of the classroom staff.
- To provide direct supervision of the activities of the members of the classroom staff.
