Opportunity:


Westcoast is looking for a permanent part-time library advisor to work 21 hours a week for 3 days which includes Wednesdays, Friday and Saturday(including evenings for all 3 days). The Library Advisor reports to the Manager, Programs & Services and is responsible for planning, implementing, and overseeing the day-to-day activities of the library program and service; participating in program development, policies and procedures formulation, program evaluation, and resource acquisition budgets; and providing workshop hosting duties as required. 


Job Responsibilities:


  • Consistently provides a high degree of customer service.
  • Oversees the day-to-day operation of the service by ensuring the necessary resources are in place, program guidelines and policies are adhered to, and program standards are met.
  • Circulation desk duties, including but not limited to:
    • Checking-in, checking-out, renewing and reserving library materials, shelving o Registering and updating patrons
    • Assisting patrons looking for materials on the shelves or needing assistance at the public computer
  • Repairs or reconditions library materials.
  • Works proficiently with basic computer software and the Sitka computer program specifically.
  • Provides technical and reference assistance to Library patrons and Westcoast staff as needed.
  • Provides general child care/child development, and family support information, resources, and referral services to families and other caregivers.
  • Maintains the general appearance of the public areas of the library.
  • Provides vacation coverage for Library Staff as needed.
  • In consultation with the Manager and Library staff, develops strategies and plans for community outreach with the intent of increasing the participation of such programs in the Early Learning Library program.
  • In consultation with the Manager and other staff, promotes the public profile of the Library by producing promotional materials and attending community events.
  • Liaises with the community and other professionals to facilitate service provision and referrals to the program and represent the organization at external events/meetings.
  • Participates in and contributes to program development, policy and procedure formulation, and program evaluation.
  • Maintains related records and statistics and produces reports as required.
  • Provides workshop hosting support as needed, including technical and logistical assistance, troubleshooting, and problem-solving as required.
  • Assists with agency opening and closing duties as required.
  • Represents the program and Westcoast in child care and broader communities.
  • Performs other related duties as required.


Skills You Bring:


  • Ability to work independently, set priorities, manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to work well under pressure.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness as part of a staff team.
  • Competency in languages in addition to English an asset.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and proficiency with productivity software such as Gsuite or Microsoft including word processing, spreadsheets, email, internet search, and other related applications.


Requirements:


  • Current Early Childhood Education Diploma or related certification.
  • Two (2) years of recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check.
