Material Coordinator – Supply Support Activity (SSA)

Job Description Summary :

The Material Coordinator plays a critical role in the management and accountability of hazardous materials (HAZMAT) and general supply operations at an Army Supply Support Activity (SSA). This position is responsible for ensuring compliance with Federal, Department of Defense (DoD), state, and local regulations governing hazardous materials, environmental protection, and workplace safety. The Material Coordinator supports warehouse operations by assisting with the receipt, inventory, labeling, packaging, and proper stowage of HAZMAT and other materials. This role also includes operating Material Handling Equipment (MHE) and maintaining strict adherence to established policies and procedures.

The Material Coordinator is a critical position within the SSA, ensuring the safe and compliant handling of hazardous materials while supporting overall supply operations. This role requires strong technical skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to maintaining operational readiness.

Key Responsibilities :

• Review, verify, and maintain accurate documentation for hazardous materials in compliance with applicable regulations and policies.
• Inspect incoming HAZMAT shipments for proper labeling, packaging, and documentation (e.g., Dangerous Goods Declaration DD 2890 or IATA Declaration of Dangerous Goods forms).
• Ensure HAZMAT materials are stored in accordance with Army and regulatory requirements to prevent environmental or safety hazards.
• Provide initial inventory and identification of hazardous materials, ensuring accuracy in records and accountability.
• Assist with relabeling and repackaging of hazardous materials as required.
• Receive and account for all materials arriving at the SSA, ensuring proper identification and documentation in automated systems.
• Conduct initial and periodic inventory counts to ensure accuracy and compliance with SSA policies.
• Stow incoming materials, including HAZMAT, in designated areas within the SSA.
• Analyze documentation for errors or discrepancies and coordinate corrective actions with SSA staff.
• Safely operate Material Handling Equipment (MHE), including forklifts, powered industrial trucks, and pallet jacks, to move, store, and secure materials.
• Band, wrap, and move skids or pallets of materials as necessary.
• Assist in moving equipment and supplies to designated areas within the SSA.
• Comply with all contract requirements listed in the Performance Work Statement (PWS) and Performance Requirements Summary (PRS).
• Stay current with HAZMAT handling regulations and guidelines, including OSHA, EPA, DoD, and Army standards.
• Adhere to all safety and health regulations to maintain a safe working environment.
• Support the preparation of reports and documentation as required by the SSA Supervisor or Supply and Services Division Manager.
• Assist Supply Technicians with general warehouse operations and tasks.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by the SSA Supervisor or Supply and Services Division Manager.
