Summary:
WesTech is in search of an Applications Engineer 1 in our Ames, IA office. This individual will assist in the design and development of equipment and systems, as well as the redesign of existing systems to fulfill the needs of the customer. They will also research, collect, and report information on the ability and capacity of water and wastewater treatment equipment. This is an entry level role, and this individual will perform a full range of Applications Engineer assignments under the guidance of a mentor.
Candidates for this position may be required to pass pre-employment and periodic screenings, including background checks, drug and alcohol tests, or other necessary assessments.
Some of the work that you will do:
- Review specifications and plan drawings from contractors and engineers
- Develop specifications for equipment to be sent to the customer/fabricator
- Prepare, maintain, and review a wide variety of documents including technical drawings and P&ID’s
- Create and review budgetary and firm bid proposals
- Generate cost estimates
- Perform and interpret basic project related calculations
- Respond to technical clarifications with customer and external sales representatives
- Make continuous improvements with the job functions and processes
- Collaborate with the Regional Sales Manager and Sales Rep to develop project specific sales strategies
- Conduct technical sales presentations and meet with customers
- Communicate project details to Project Managers and Designers
- Review bid proposals for team members
- Other duties as assigned/requested

- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Mechanical, Environmental, Chemical Engineering or equivalent
- Experience: Entry level
- Ability to travel (approximately 10%)

- Engineering work experience including internships
- Advanced engineering degree
- Experience with AutoCAD, Solid Works, or Pro-E
- Prior sales experience
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to work at a desk to operate computer/phone system
- Frequently required to sit, talk, hear, and see. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and distance vision
- Regularly required to move around the facility
- Some lifting may be involved (up to 50 lbs.)
