Summary

Mid-Level Process Engineer is an experienced position performing a full range of assignments within Process engineering discipline specific to water/wastewater treatment system designs. Is a core member of the engineering team and a key part of project teams. They have a good understanding of engineering fundamentals, engineering packages of process plants, industry codes/standards and best-practices, quality control and safety standards; and they possess the engineering skills to complete the common and more complicated design work which will be peer reviewed in accordance with company and/or customer specifications.

Some of the work you will do: 

  • Execute engineering deliverables using industry acceptable methodologies, procedures, and practices to ensure designs are congruent with international, national and local standards and codes.
  • Review project specifications and documentation inherent to existing site conditions (water quality/characteristics, as-built drawings).
  • Prepare, interpret, and review technical specifications and drawings to ensure design intent is properly shown, as outlined in the Basis of Design, Process Description & Operation Philosophy
  • Determine chemical injection points and dosing, line sizing to design safe, efficient, and flexible treatment solutions.
  • Perform complex design tasks and calculations for several projects at a time, including hydraulic calculations & process equipment sizing calculations
  • Ability to characterize and size piping and equipment and prepare and review process flow diagrams and piping and instrumentation diagrams.
  • Perform mass balance and chemical consumption calculations.
  • Prepare and review technical reports when required.
  • Provide construction support in reviewing delegated design packages, RFI's, and field observation visits.
  • Provide complete and clear design packages for use by internal and external customers.
  • Review, check and approve consulting engineers’ and/or subcontractor drawings, calculations and other documents, as needed.
  • Reviews and stamps process calculations and drawings (where applicable).
  • Provide design assistance for all phases of the project.
  • Recommends topics for internal technical training. Perform or assists with teaching internal training as assigned.
  • Supports and mentors junior engineers by cultivating a collaborative team environment.
  • Independently plans and implements solutions for their project/team.
  • Create and improve existing design tools, as needed.
  • Communicates technical issues and decisions clearly and proactively to a cross-functional audience, mastering the ability to express complicated issues simply.
  • Function as a Project/Discipline Lead Engineer in a project, to ensure quality, performance, and promote interface between the client, sub-consultants or sub-suppliers as well as the internal engineering and project team.
  • Travel to client sites and project locations as necessary for design collaboration or start-up/commissioning support.

Here are the skills that you need: 

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical/Environmental Engineering preferred or, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering
  • License: FE license required, PE License required or ability to acquire within 6 months of hire
  • Experience: Generally, at least 5 years or more of related experience
  • Proficient with Excel, preferably familiar with Macros and VBA functionality
  • Knowledge of industry standards like ASTM, PIP, ISO, among others
  • Exposure to preparation of Process Engineering packages on different phases (Feasibility, Concept, FEED, Detailed Design) for Process Plants
  • Ability to read and understand engineering plans and specifications
  • Detail oriented, well organized
  • Strong communication skills
  • Self-motivated with detailed and complete follow-through

 

Here are the skills and qualifications that will set you apart: 

  • Master’s Degree in Chemical/Environmental Engineering
  • Experience in the water/wastewater industry
  • Experience working on EPC, Design-Build, or Progressive Design-Build projects

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to use a workstation using computer/phone
  • Some lifting may be involved (up to 50 lbs.)
