Job Summary: The focus of the WPS Literacy Tutor is to provide supplemental practice through tutoring students to develop the students literacy skills. The literacy tutor will use evidence-based literacy interventions along with Highly Qualified Instructional Materials and will conduct weekly progress monitoring to ensure the student is on track to read at grade level.
Responsibilities:
- Instruction and Assessment
- Conduct one-on-one or small group tutoring sessions with students including content/strategies, during the school year and potentially in the summer.
- Assist children to improve their skills and abilities to reach grade level expectations.
- Provide opportunities for family involvement.
- Develop and maintain a weekly tutoring schedule for students to allow students to receive tutoring sessions.
- Act on feedback and guidance from an Administrator.
- Assess, with a high level of accuracy, students’ continual progress through progress monitoring and benchmarking.
- Document students’ weekly progress scores and interventions.
- Regularly review student data to track effectiveness of the intervention plans.
- Document attendance and take action if student participation is inconsistent or lacking
- Attend all required training sessions, and meetings.
- Communicate with students in an age and developmentally appropriate way.
- Professionally communicate with the administrator and school staff regarding student schedules, interventions and student progress.
- Act on constructive feedback provided by an administrator.
- Build professional relationships with school staff, to maintain good communication and ensure the integrity of the program.
- Fulfill program requirements and daily read and respond to email communications
- Ensure confidentiality of all student records, and test scores.
- Other related duties as assigned.
Secondary Functions
- Participate in school or district after school programming with a priority on tutoring.
- Participate in WPS outreach activities.
Qualifications:
- Experience:
- Background in reading or literacy content preferred but not required.
- Education:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Physical Requirements:
- Walk, climb stairs, bend and lift up to 45lbs.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
- Must provide a current national background check without disqualifying results at time of hire.
- This position has five vacancies per location.
