*ESY program runs from July 7- August 1 and may vary by days and times.
General Statement: Provide support to the educational process with specific focus on meeting the diverse individual health and wellness needs of students within the district.
Responsibilities:
- Act as a liaison between children, families and health care resources for the purpose of accessing and coordinating necessary health care agencies/programs.
- Complying with the laws relating to student health by administering first aid, medication, specialized medical treatment, vision, dental and/or back/scoliosis screenings, etc. for the purpose of providing appropriate care for ill, medically fragile and/or injured children.
- Provide health services in a school setting; state laws regarding sexually transmitted diseases; health standards and hazards; and stages of child development.
- Assess situations involving students’ safety, abuse (physical, sexual, drug) and other health related issues for the purpose of identifying problems, referring for proper treatment and complying with legal requirements.
- Collaborates with parents, students, health care providers, and/or other agencies for the purpose of promoting needed treatment, securing information and complying with legal requirements.
- Reports students with contagious diseases to local public health authorities for the purpose of minimizing infection and complying with the law.
- Apply pertinent codes, policies, regulations and/or laws; applying assessment instruments; operating standard office equipment including pertinent software applications.
- Performs any other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Experience:
- Job related experience (including the delivery of a health curriculum) within a school setting is preferred.
- Education:
- Associates Degree required.
- Certification & Licensing:
- An appropriate Rhode Island School Nurse Teacher’s Certification
- First Aid/CPR Certificate
- Current Rhode Island RN License
- Authorized to work in the USA
- Current national background check without disqualifying results at time of hire.
