General Statement: The School Bus monitor provides support in transit to students with extraordinary needs being transported on School Buses. This position requires knowledge of caring for students with extraordinary physical, medical or behavioral needs, manipulating and securing equipment on and off a school bus, supporting the bus driver and maintaining the safety of students while the bus is in transit to ensure their safe arrival at school and home each day.
Responsibilities:
- Manages behavior of students using district safety care protocols while entering, while in transit, or exiting the bus.
- Manages seating including securing wheelchairs, harness and/or car seats needed for extraordinary physical, medical or behavioral needs of students. This includes operating the lift system to support students entering or exiting the Bus.
- Assists bus drivers with the day to day management of students as well as any emergency procedures as necessary.
- Assist students crossing the street if necessary.
Qualifications:
- Experience:
- Previous work with children in an educational or childcare environment.
- Understanding of the mechanical process used to board and exit a bus for wheelchairs and any other transport devices.
- Education:
- Must have a high school diploma, or equivalent.
- Certification & Licensing:
- Must be willing and able to be certified in First Aid/CPR, Safety Care Training.
