What you'll do:
Western Alliance Bank (WAL) is seeking a Model Risk Management Associate Director. The successful candidate will report directly into the Model Risk Management Senior Director and will oversee the group’s Model Governance function. The Model Risk Management Associate Director is responsible for: enhancing policies and procedures; maintaining model, simple analytical approach (SAA), and critical spreadsheet inventories; overseeing issue management; producing quarterly reporting; and assisting with validation activities, as needed. Candidates should have a graduate degree in a quantitative field and 10 years of experience in model development, model risk management, or model risk audit roles within the financial services industry. Strong communication skills are a must. The Model Risk Management Associate Director will lead a team of 2-5 model risk management professionals.- Enhances policies and procedures related to model, SAA, and critical spreadsheet risk management
- Maintains model, SAA, and critical spreadsheet inventories
- Oversees issue management for the model risk management programs; oversees testing of critical spreadsheet controls
- Produces quarterly reporting on the state of model and critical spreadsheet risk, including key risk indicators
- Serves as a liaison between the Model Risk Management Group and model developers/owners, other risk management functions, and Internal Audit.
- Conducts enterprise-wide training on identifying, assessing, mitigating, and monitoring model and critical spreadsheet risk
- Keeps abreast of regulatory developments and industry trends pertaining to model and critical spreadsheet risk
- Helps conduct validation activities (including annual reviews), as needed
- Manages a team of 2-5 model risk management professionals
What you'll need:
- Graduate degree in a quantitative field (e.g., statistics, economics, mathematics, computer/data science, accounting, finance) and 10 years of experience in the financial services industry
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
- Good project management skills, with the ability to work on multiple projects and on tight deadlines
- In-depth knowledge of Federal Reserve SR Letter 11-7
- Ability to lead and develop less experienced professionals
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office; expertise in programming a statistical language is a plus
