Lecturer in Music Industry & Guitar

POSITION: Western Colorado University invites applications for a non-tenure-track, full-time faculty position in the area of Music Industry and Guitar. Teaching responsibilities include courses in Music Technology & Production (recording arts, live sound, music production, etc.), guitar lessons, general education music courses, and developing and teaching new courses in Music Business. Other courses may be included in the teaching load based on need and qualifications. The successful candidate will teach a 15-credit load each semester with the potential for a reduced load and reassigned time to supervise the Quigley Records studio, engage with recruitment activities and/or other departmental priorities. Quigley Hall has a modern recording studio with three tracking rooms, a large selection of quality audio equipment, and a music technology lab for teaching. A strong commitment to effective teaching is expected.

QUALIFICATIONS: A Master's degree in Music, Music Industry, Music Business, or a closely-related field is required. Holding another relevant graduate degree with significant, tested experience (or teaching) in Music Production or Music Business will be considered. Candidates must be capable of teaching guitar in multiple styles including pop and jazz. Candidates must have a demonstrated commitment to undergraduate education, excellence in teaching, and willingness to work with and be sensitive to the educational needs of a diverse student population. Candidates must also be able to use technology in instructional delivery, including the ability to teach online and hybrid courses. Collegiality and professional flexibility are characteristic of the department and would be sought in the successful candidate.
SALARY/BENEFITS: $50,000-$54,000 annualized salary. Western offers an excellent benefits package including shared premiums for a comprehensive health insurance plan, dental insurance, retirement plan, life insurance, and other insurance options. After one year of employment, Western provides free tuition for dependents enrolled full time in undergraduate programs for up to four years.

We expect several new units to be available, on a first come first served basis, with subsidized leases as “bridge” housing for up to one year, while new employees locate long term accommodations in the area.
