Position Description

Adjunct instructors at Western Dakota Tech are educators whose instructional efforts are expected to reflect the mission, vision, and goals of the institution. Adjunct faculty teach courses in their respective fields to include planning, preparation and delivery of lecture / lab instruction materials at all levels of training.

Adjuncts are paid dependent on their educational degree. Pay is as follows :

  • MA / MS - $800 per workload credit hour
  • Doctorate - $1,000 per workload credit hour
  • All degrees must be awarded by an accredited institution

Position Essential Duties

  • Mastery of Subject Matter
  • Demonstrate a thorough and accurate knowledge of their field or discipline.

  • Display an ability to interpret and evaluate the theories of their field or discipline.
  • Teaching Performance
  • Plan and organize instruction in ways that maximize documented student learning.
  • Employ appropriate teaching and learning strategies to communicate subject matter to students, i.e. prepare lectures, lessons, presentations, lab activities, tests, assignments, quizzes, and exams.
  • Modify, where appropriate, instructional methods and strategies to meet diverse student needs.
  • Employ available instructional technology, i.e. internet, interactive technology, and simulation when appropriate.
  • Set up labs, classrooms, shops, et cetera to deliver lessons to students.
  • Encourage the development of communication skills and higher order thinking skills through appropriate assignments.
  • Promote student success by building positive interpersonal relationships with students, staff, and colleagues at WDT.
  • Develop, update and post course syllabi in a timely manner.
  • Evaluation of Student Learning
  • Evaluate student performance fairly and consistently and return student work promptly to promote maximum learning.

  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and submit grade rosters as required, i.e. 4 week, midterm and final grades.
  • Participate in program assessment activities as requested.
  • Demonstrate sensitivity to student needs and circumstances.
  • Support of School's Policies and Procedures
  • Teach classes as assigned and in accordance with the catalog description, the master syllabus, the stipulations of WDT, and the interests of industry.

  • Meet with each class as scheduled and hold classes for the time frame as designated in the class schedule.
  • Record and provide attendance data in accordance with school's policies and procedures.
  • Perform job responsibilities as outlined in faculty handbook.
  • Adhere to FERPA regulations.
  • Exercise stewardship of school's facilities and materials.
  • Follow WDT policies and procedures.
  • Complete Adjunct Orientation and required annual compliance activities.
  • Participation in Western Dakota Tech Program Activities
  • Act in a professional manner as delineated in the South Dakota Code of Professional Ethics for Teachers (Appendix B).

  • Maintain professional classrooms, shops, labs and office areas.
  • Respond in a timely fashion to information requests from students, colleagues, staff and administrators.
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills in communication with students, colleagues, staff and administrators as an individual or as a part of a team.
  • Qualifications

  • Minimum of a Master's degree in Accounting or a Master's degree in any discipline with a minimum of 18 graduate credits in Accounting from an accredited university or college.
  • Completion of the Adjunct Orientation course provided by WDT upon hire.

  • Fundamentals and principles of learning in addition to teaching methodologies.
  • Methods and techniques used in student assessment, students in classroom and lab settings.

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in all group sizes.
  • Demonstrated ability in oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated expertise in project management and problem solving.
  • Ability to organize, manage and complete timeline projects over multiple-year periods.
  • Certifications and Licenses :

    Licenses, certifications and / or registrations relevant to the specific industry / discipline for which the adjunct instructor member is designated to teach.

Western Dakota Tech's Annual Security Report includes statistics for the previous three years concerning reported Clery crimes that occurred on campus and on public property within or immediately adjacent to and accessible from the campus. The report also includes institutional policies concerning campus safety and security, such as those concerning alcohol and drug use, crime prevention, the reporting of crimes, sexual assault prevention and response, timely warnings, emergency response, and other matters.
