ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Mechanical design engineer responsible for all aspects of design analysis and evaluation of electromechanical components including connectors and flexible printed circuits as well as various other mechanical components and assemblies for hard disk drives.
Design ownership throughout the entire development cycle including the creation of solid models and drawings tolerance analysis handson design validation reliability demonstration data analysis failure analysis and rigorous design optimization to achieve superior performance and cost.
Work directly with suppliers SQE and internal Manufacturing teams and Procurement partners to ensure designs are robust cost effective and optimized for highvolume manufacturing.
Work crossfunctionally throughout the Development and Operations Teams to deliver world class solutions to demanding technical challenges.
Some international travel may be required.

Qualifications : REQUIRED

Bachelor of Science degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering.

Minimum of 5 years of experience in mechanical and electromechanical component designs.

Must have boardtoboard or other connector system design experience for PCBA and FCA applications.

Working knowledge of highvolume manufacturing methods such as plastic injection molding sheet metal stamping and metal forming flexible printed circuit fabrication and assembly processes connector assemblies and component fabrication tooling requirements.

Handson experience performing tolerance analyses DFM reviews component testing using basic test instrumentation reliability validation and failure analyses.

Solid fundamental mechanical and electromechanical design engineering skills with experience using 3D CAD software and analysis tools.

Project or work experience demonstrating technical capability in areas of mechanical design basic finite element analysis (FEA) tolerance stackup analysis and knowledge of various engineering materials.

SKILLS

Demonstrated ability in creative problem solving and innovation.

Strong team player effective communication skills and highly motivated.

An employees pay position within the salary range may be based on several factors including but not limited to (1) relevant education; qualifications; certifications; and experience; (2) skills ability knowledge of the job; (3) performance contribution and results; (4) geographic location; (5) shift; (6) internal and external equity; and (7) business and organizational needs.

The salary range is what we believe to be the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and this range is only applicable for jobs to be performed in California Colorado New York or remote jobs that can be performed in California Colorado and New York. This range may be modified in the future.

You will be eligible to participate in Western Digitals ShortTerm Incentive (STI) Plan which provides incentive awards based on Company and individual performance. Depending on your role and your performance you may be eligible to participate in our annual LongTerm Incentive (LTI) program which consists of restricted stock units (RSUs) or cash equivalents pursuant to the terms of the LTI plan. Please note that not all roles are eligible to participate in the LTI program and not all roles are eligible for equity under the LTI plan. RSU awards are also available to eligible new hires subject to Western Digitals Standard Terms and Conditions for Restricted Stock Unit Awards.
