What are the responsibilities and job description for the Technologist Optical Design Engineer position at Western Digital?
The job opening is for a fulltime R&D engineer to conduct research and development in the area of head development for Heat Assisted Magnetic Recording (HAMR). Responsibilities can include the design of the optical system including a planar waveguide a mode converter a laser diode and a nearfield transducer; characterization of the optical system initiating and developing intellectual property; and publishing and presenting scientific results at conferences.
Qualifications : REQUIRED
- Minimum of Ph.D degree in Physics Applied Physics Electrical Engineering or closely related field.
- Industrial experience is desired but not required.
- The candidate should have demonstrated expertise in one or more of the following areas : modeling of planar lightwave circuits which includes waveguide mode converter and / or grating couplers; modeling of plasmonic devices; and design of optical characterization tools for optical devices.
