WECC is seeking a Technical Writer to join us in achieving our mission to reduce risks to the reliability and security of the Western Interconnection.

As a member of the External Affairs team, the Technical Writer will interpret technical information for non-technical audiences, research and review energy policies, work with project teams to develop WECC products, and support strategic objectives of the organization. The Technical Writer will work closely with their colleagues to develop excellent work products that are aligned with WECC’s strategic objectives and provide useful information to stakeholders and decision-makers.

You will—

Partner with colleagues to produce excellent products:

  • Work with WECC subject matter experts, project management, and the Strategic Engagement department on projects that address important issues of reliability and security,
  • Help project teams identify and incorporate stakeholder perspectives and information needs and select appropriate methods of communication,
  • Understand key reliability and security themes and issues from the perspective of WECC stakeholders and apply that information to project creation, and
  • Support work on process improvement and ensure continuous improvement in work production.

Interpret technical information:

  • Translate technical information on reliability risks for different audiences,
  • Understand WECC’s stakeholders and the needs of various audiences for WECC’s work,
  • Provide technical writing support to project teams to ensure information is shared appropriately with the target audience,
  • Provide technical writing support to departments across the organization.

Research energy policies:

  • Support WECC’s policy work by researching and reporting on energy policies affecting the Western Interconnection,
  • Understand critical policy objectives to help harmonize WECC’s approach to reliability issues,
  • Help integrate policy considerations into WECC projects and products,
  • Stay up to date on policy figures, such as commissioners and policymakers.

  • Knowledgeable about electric industry issues and policies affecting the power sector,
  • Adept at marketing and communicating company work products and messaging to different audiences, and
  • Partial to working in a team and can lead people from diverse backgrounds and areas of expertise.

Minimum Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, business, or related discipline or an equivalent combination of education and work experience resulting in a demonstrated ability to perform major duties,
  • A minimum of 3-8 years’ experience working in a strategic position with teams on large projects.

Benefits and Compensation

The base salary range for this full-time position is $71,255 – $89,069 discretionary pay benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role and level. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and mid-point for the position across all locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Your recruiter will share more details during the hiring process.
