What are the responsibilities and job description for the Unit Operator position at Western Farmers Electric Cooperative?
**Job Summary**
The Unit Operator is responsible for the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the Hugo Power Plant. Under the supervision of the Shift supervisor, they will coordinate with other operators to achieve optimal plant performance.
Main Responsibilities:
- Coordinate with Unit Auxiliary Operator, Boiler Auxiliary Operator, and Fuel System Operator to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient plant operation.
- Operate plant systems within established guidelines and direction.
- Maintain and troubleshoot equipment to prevent damage and optimize performance.
- Assist in training and development of other plant personnel.
- Respond to emergency situations and take prompt action to protect equipment and personnel.
Requirements:
- Associate's degree with a minimum of three (3) years of experience in power plant operations or two (2) years at the Unit Auxiliary Operator level.
- Preferred experience in a coal-fired power plant with a DCS control system.
- Demonstrated technical knowledge and skills in power plant operations.
- Ability to work a rotating shift schedule with overtime and short notice requirements.
Working Conditions:
- Work in varying weather conditions outside and temperature extremes inside.
- Walk or stand on elevated platforms or working from a ladder, inclined, uneven, or slippery surfaces.
- Work with or near hazardous chemicals, materials, fumes, dust, or smoke.
