Overview
Western OB/GYN is seeking a skilled, motivated Certified Professional Coder to work in our practice. This is an in office position, Monday - Friday. As a CPC you perform audits on documentation to code to the highest specificity. Review documentation to assign the appropriate ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS codes for OB/GYN services, including prenatal care, labor and delivery, gynecological exams, and surgeries. Required to code in compliance to all laws, regulations, standards and policy requirements. High School diploma or equivalent. A minimum of 1 year coding experience.
Responsibilities
- Analyze patient charts, medical records, and physician documentation to understand the services rendered.
- Ensure all necessary documentation is present and complete, including patient history, diagnosis, treatment plans, and procedures.
- Use the appropriate ICD-10 (International Classification of Diseases) codes to represent diagnoses.
- Assign the correct CPT (Current Procedural Terminology) codes for procedures performed, including prenatal care, deliveries (vaginal or cesarean), gynecological exams, surgeries, and other OB/GYN-related services.
- Apply HCPCS (Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System) codes for certain medical supplies, services, or equipment when needed.
- Ensure that codes accurately reflect the services provided and meet all payer-specific coding requirements.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of any changes in coding standards, including ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS updates.
- Ensure that coding adheres to healthcare regulations, such as HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act), CMS (Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services) guidelines, and payer-specific rules.
- Avoid upcoding (coding for more expensive services than what was provided) or down coding (coding for less expensive services than what was provided).
- Work with healthcare providers to clarify any missing or incomplete documentation.
- Assist physicians in ensuring their documentation is accurate and comprehensive to support the correct coding.
- Code for specialized OB/GYN procedures, including labor and delivery, hysterectomies, pap smears, ultrasounds, colposcopies, and other gynecological surgeries or examinations.
- Assign codes for prenatal visits, ultrasounds, blood work, and follow-up care during pregnancy.
Skills
- Proficiency in medical terminology relevant to obstetrics and gynecology.
- Strong working knowledge of managed care plans, insurance carriers, referrals and precertification procedures.
- Knowledge of medical records management practices and medical collection procedures.
- Experience with ICD-10 and ICD-9 coding systems for accurate diagnosis classification.
- Strong understanding of medical coding principles to ensure compliance with healthcare regulations.
- Excellent communication skills for effective interaction with patients and healthcare team members.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
- Requires a good understanding of the current Medicare/Medicaid Compliance, OSHA, and HIPAA regulations.
Qualifications:
1.Certified Professional Coder (CPC) certification required.
2. In-depth knowledge of CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS coding systems, with a focus on ob/gyn coding
