POSITION TITLE:
Dual Language Education Elementary Teacher
REPORTS TO:
School Administration and/or Dual Language Coordinator
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Provide educational direction for the Dual Language Education students within the Western Heights School District boundaries. Responsible for planning, preparation and instruction of all required CCSS, NGSS, WIDA SLD (Spanish Language Development) standards, and district benchmarks in both English and Spanish. Create a quality learning environment for all students utilizing the CCSS, NGSS, the WIDA SLD Standards and Benchmarks of the school district and represent the professional responsibilities and values of the community and the educational system.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Certification: Oklahoma Teachers Certification – Elementary Education ( Early Childhood, K-12 or similar depending of the grade level desired and/or the opening at that moment of the posting ), or able to be certifiable to teach in Oklahoma
- Bilingual Education (Preferred)
- English as a Second Language
- Education:
- Required – Bachelor’s Degree in Education
- Preferred – Master's Degree Program in Education or Similar
- Experience:
- Required – Experience in elementary education.
- Preferred – Fully Bilingual in English and Spanish (Proficiency in Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing in both Languages).
- Preferred – Experience in DLI or Bilingual Education.
- Preferred – Candidates must have knowledge or experience in multicultural settings as well as familiarity with the Latino community.
ESSENTIAL PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Demonstrates the ability to speak, read and write fluent, academic Spanish and English.
- Demonstrates an understanding of first and second language acquisition in the classroom and their implications within the learning environment.
- Demonstrates an understanding, knowledge of, and skills in teaching for Biliteracy and the development and implementation of Biliteracy units across the curriculum in the classroom.
- Demonstrates knowledge of, and skills in, goal setting and objectives based on grade level CCSS, NGSS, WIDA SLD (Spanish Language Development) standards, district benchmarks, and assessment in both English and Spanish along with student development.
- Demonstrates knowledge of, and skills in, using a variety of instructional methods including Total Physical Response (TPR), Adaptive Reader’s Theatre (ART) and Language Experience Approach (LEA). Be able to utilize effective questioning techniques and foster discussion. Be able to motivate and challenge all students through integrated instruction and differentiation.
- Demonstrates knowledge of, and skills in, organizing physical space and establishing a focused learning environment based on respect and rapport while managing student behavior.
- Has an innate desire to help each child become proficient in the development of their educational
skills.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
TECHNICAL SKILLS: Educational pedagogy as appropriate to both general education and alternative education; ability to conduct and understand research-based best practices; working knowledge of instructional technology (computers, e-mail, district programs, etc.); ability to analyze and interpret data; good communication skills including oral, written, and listening skills in both languages; knowledge of standards and benchmarks.
INTERPERSONAL SKILLS: High level of conscientiousness; ability to organize or schedule students and tasks; ability to develop realistic action plans; a well-developed sense of ethics and integrity; openness/ willingness to consider new ideas, imaginative and creative; demonstrate leadership and team-building skills; self-reliant; ability to handle periodic high levels of stress; ability to communicate effectively in both languages with students, site and district staff, and the public; ability to work on multiple tasks simultaneously.
