Job Goal:

To develop, instruct, and collect data on students in the areas of education, behavior, and social skills to reintegrate them into a public-school campus.

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

This position is Nine and one-fourth (9.25) month contract (190 days), plus a benefits package. NOTE: Precise placement within the salary range will be determined based on experience and LRSD’s salary placement guidelines. FLSA: EXEMPT.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree.
  2. Current Arkansas certification in Special Education Instructional Specialist at the appropriate grade level.
  3. Experience in implementing non-aversive behavioral programs and social skills training.
  4. Evidence of strong writing and organizational skills.
  5. Evidence of the ability to develop, supervise, and implement Individual Education Plans.
  6. Effective and professional communication.
  7. Maintain professionalism and confidentiality at all times.

 

Such alternatives and additions to the above qualifications may be deemed appropriate by the Superintendent. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may require.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

The following statements of duties and responsibilities are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individuals assigned to this position. These statements are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties and responsibilities required of all personnel within this position.

 

  1. Provides direct instruction to students identified as having Autism Spectrum Disorders
  2. Implement state of the art research based strategies to work effectively with students with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
  3. Plans and delivers instruction that is aligned with students' individualized education plan goals and Little Rock School District curriculum maps.
  4. Implements individual educational goals and objectives.
  5. Collect and analyze student data and monitor student progress
  6. Create and coordinate student schedules with related services and general education 
  7.  Advises parents and/or legal guardian of student progress for the purpose of supporting teacher’s expectations, developing methods for improvement and/or reinforcing classroom goals in the home environment
  8.  Assesses students’ social needs (e.g. behavioral, motor, development, communication, etc.), academic needs, progress, expectations, goals etc. (e.g. developmental level, vocational abilities, etc.) for the purpose of evaluating students and family requirements, placement and success of the program.
  9.  Collaborates with school personnel, parents and various community agencies for the purpose of improving the quality of student outcomes.
  10.  Participate in staff development that fosters professional growth and enhances instructional skills.
  11.  Participate in students’ staffing throughout the year
  12.  Must have no physical limitations. Candidate must be able to lift.
  13. He/She must be able to participate in the Safety-Care Behavioral Safety Training
  14. Performs other duties the principal/supervisor may assign.

Mental Functions, Physical Requirements, and Working Conditions:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, go up and down stairs, operate foot and hand controls, use a telephone and write. Occasionally the employee must lift and/or move up to twenty (20) or more pounds. This position requires accurate perceiving of sound, near and far vision, depth perception, handling and working with educational materials and/or objects, and providing oral information. Must have the ability to work for the duration of the daily contracted time period, and to be physically present and at assigned work, with only infrequent unexcused absences, during the contract year. Additional technical skills, knowledge, and abilities may be recommended by the immediate supervisor and approved by the Human Resources Director.
