WICAP JOB DESCRIPTION

TITLE: Bus Driver/Custodian PROGRAM: Head Start/EHS

POSITION SUMMARY: Performs all job responsibilities in a safe manner. Must adhere to the Standards of Conduct which includes that no child is left alone or unsupervised and follow reporting systems. Provide safe transportation for children and parents following regulations for school buses. Perform minor maintenance on vehicles and facilities. Ensure that the facility common areas and the bus are kept clean and sanitary. Ensure that the playground and the outside facilities are well maintained and be a team player.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.

2. Must have or be willing to obtain and keep current a valid commercial drivers license (CDL) with passenger and school bus endorsements, and an acceptable drivers record.

3. Must have or be willing to obtain and keep current a DOT physical.

4. One year experience with custodial work.

5. Basic knowledge of facility maintenance.

6. Ability to maintain records on a computer system or willing to learn.

7. Good verbal and written communication skills.

8. Bilingual in English and Spanish desirable, but not always required. The primary language in the workplace is English.

9. Valid Driver’s license and access to a privately owned vehicle with liability insurance for use in completing work responsibilities as needed.

** Documented on the job, WICAP education and/or experience may be used as an equivalent to some of the experience and qualifications needed.

OCCUPATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Regular kneeling, stooping, pulling, cleaning, bending and facility maintenance.

2. Occasional lifting in excess of 50 lbs.

3. Daily visual observations of participants.

4. Must be 25 years of age or older.

5. Physical capability, strength and coordination adequate to drive a school bus.

6. Must have or be willing to obtain a Pediatric First Aid CPR/AED Infant, Child and Adult certifications within 60 days from the date of hire.

7. No prior convictions of child abuse/neglect. Criminal History background clearance.

8. External Employees must complete and clear a Physical and TB screen upon conditional offer to hire.

9. Successful completion of a Driving License record that meets WICAP’s insurance requirements.

10. External Employees must complete and clear a Drug and Alcohol screening upon conditional offer to hire, post-accident, and as requested at random.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Ensures that no child is left unattended.

2. Ensure safety is a priority in performing all job responsibilities. Attend safety trainings and ensure adherence to the safety policy.

3. Schedules and organizes their time to meet all job expectations timely.

4. Transport children to and from school according to established schedules in a safe and timely manner.

5. Transports meals to satellite schools from a Head Start location on time and completes necessary paperwork.

6. Ensure the facility is monitored for safety and is kept in a clean and sanitary condition.

7. Ensure playgrounds and outside areas are maintained and kept clean and sanitary.

8. Assist in moving, loading, assembling and maintaining classroom and office furniture.

9. Follows requirements outlined in policies, regulations, and operational procedures.

10. Participate in recruitment of participants.

11. Paperwork and reports are completed accurately and timely.

12. Model Respectful Workplace Policy when interacting with WICAP customers, community members and colleagues.

13. Be responsible to ensure compliance with confidentiality policy and HIPPA regulations.

14. Perform other relevant responsibilities as required by the program and as outlined in position expectations.

15. Maintain current, valid driver’s license and liability insurance at all times on any personal vehicle used to conduct WICAP business.

16. Participate in professional development, sometimes off-site, at the request and of the supervisor.

17. Assure that a positive image of WICAP is portrayed at all times.

POSITION INFORMATION: Hourly Wage:

Status is Non-Exempt Entry Rate is $16.58 per hour.

41-52 weeks per year

Expected hours: 40 per week
