We are looking for a motivated and compassionate Sexual Assault (SA) Children’s Counselor for our Victim Services department.
Rate of Pay: $22.00 - 23.47 per hour, 37.5 hours per week (full-time), plus periodic scheduled on-call hours on a rotational basis.
General Purpose: This person is responsible for individual and group counseling with child and adolescent survivors of sexual assault/abuse.
Supervisory Responsibility: None
Minimum Level of Education/Experience Required: Bachelor’s degree in counseling, social work, or psychology and one year work experience in the social work profession or a combination of education/experience in a related field.
License or Certification Required: Must have a valid Illinois Driver’s license and proof of automobile insurance.
Essential Functions of the Job:
- Provide client centered, trauma informed crisis and long-term counseling services to child and adolescent victims of sexual assault/abuse.
- Develop, implement and conduct relevant support groups for victims and non-offending significant others.
- Act as a referral source for relevant services to assist the victim and family.
- Understand and maintain client confidentiality as required by law and funding sources.
- Responsible for all required documentation of services and other paperwork as required for job responsibilities.
- Complete required 60 hours of child sexual abuse and related issues training, 30 hours within 6 months, additional 30 hours within 1 year.
- Complete a minimum of 12 hours of continuing education/year, 6 hrs focusing on children to keep abreast of new information, skills, and best practices.
- Coordinate and participate in events and awareness activities for sexual assault and social justice issues throughout the region.
- Attend trainings to keep abreast of new information and skills.
- Travel throughout the region is required in the performance of job duties in addition to trainings or other required activities.
- Provide crisis line and hotline duty and documentation when scheduled or needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
Physical Demands:
- Must be available to perform the essential functions of the job whenever scheduled to work.
- Must be able to move about to meet with clients, the public, coworkers, and others to deliver case management, advocacy, counseling, and outreach activities required by the program.
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position to work on a computer to enter documentation, coordinate events, and to refer clients to services.
- Must be able to pick up and hold documents and other common office items.
- Must be able to communicate and converse with clients, coworkers, and community partners to carry out assigned duties.
- Must be able to operate a computer to record and report data, and to communicate with staff, clients, volunteers, and community partners.
- Must be able to use a telephone to communicate with clients, coworkers, volunteers, and community partners.
- Must be able to operate a motor vehicle to provide required services in the community.
