Summary /Objective
The Set-up Mechanic will be part of the Set Up crew. The set-up crew ensures that the right mold/tooling is set up in the right machine to support the manufacturing of quality products. The mechanic assists in the removal of old mold and tooling and prepares the vacant machine to receive the next mold and tooling required as directed by the production schedule. Completes pre-run checklist and ensures that the right mold/tooling is set up in the right machine to support the manufacturing of quality products. Set-up team continually works with the Process, Maintenance, and Production departments to troubleshoot, and correction of production errors as needed to support the manufacturing of quality products.
Essential Function

- Reviews production sheets to determine what product(s) are scheduled for production, and on which machines.
- Prepares for changes as directed by the production schedule and quality control sheet, pulling all materials i.e.; molds, tools and other setup components.
- Removes mold, tooling, and other components after a complete production run, and prepares all pieces for proper storage.
- Identifies proper mold, tooling, and components needed as directed by the production schedule for the assigned machine.
- Installs the identified mold and tooling components in the vacant machine.
- Confirms machine is ready for production by performing pre-run inspections for clearance, loose wires/water lines, alignment, etc.
- Performs all changes and necessary parts using established procedures and precautions as required.
- Ensures the application of GMP’s, SOP’s in accordance with IMS / SQF standards.
- Must be able to identify incomplete set up, wrong tooling, or wrong mold and rectify for good production.
- Communicates mechanical issues to Management or requests help directly from the Maintenance Dept.
- Maintains a safe, clean, and organized production area, suggests and implements improvements.
- Maintains continuous communication with Supervisor, Production
- Regular and reliable on-time attendance is required to ensure operational continuity and support team collaboration
- All other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Competencies
- Must have mechanical aptitude
- Must have basic knowledge of manufacturing
- Abilities and skills relating to the use of power and hand tools.
- Knowledge of safe and productive use of hand tools
- The ability to read a tape measure accurately, is critical to this position.
- Troubleshooting experience preferred
- Ability Read diagrams/blueprints preferred
- Ability to follow written and verbal directions required
- Knowledge of workplace safety required
- Read, Write and Speak English required

Supervisory Responsibility
This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities but may serve as a coach and mentor for those in the maintenance department.
Work Environment
This job will be performed in production, warehouse, office, and outside buildings, requiring exposure to extreme weather, with moderate to loud noise levels. This position may require work above or below ground level and in confined spaces. This position will routinely work on and around industrial equipment and systems including, blow molding machinery, CNC machinery, motors, motor control centers, emergency generators, water coolers, air compressors, grinders, hand tools, hydraulics, and pneumatics. The maintenance department may have exposure to hazardous materials.
Physical Demands
Standing, walking, bending, stooping, grip/grasping, twisting, reaching above the head, climbing stairs and ladders, lifting and carrying 40-80 lbs., ability to use tools, and other industrial equipment; Able to work in a manufacturing environment with extreme heat; Wear necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
