The Assistant Director plays an integral role on the WKU Online team in two key capacities. First, the Assistant Director conducts research and data analyses of enrollment issues, trends, and models with the aim of supporting consistent enrollment growth, increased student success, and reduced equity gaps. Second, this position ensures that the university and academic programs are in compliance with state and federal authorization requirements as well as licensure regulations that allow programs to qualify for Title IV funds. The Assistant director shapes, monitors, and advises the institution's distance education compliance efforts in accordance with the standards and expectations established by its multiple regulatory and reporting bodies in alignment with the University's stated mission, vision, and values.

The following duties are customary for this position, but are not to be construed as all-inclusive. Duties may be added, deleted, and assigned based on management discretion and institutional needs.

  • Assesses and analyzes the enrollment, persistence, and graduation rates for current online programs.
  • Analyzes institutional data to assess online learning programs and inform decisions for distance learning programs.
  • Monitors online program course availability and changes in WKU degree and certificate program requirements to maintain up to date information for students, WKU faculty and staff, and external reporting agencies.
  • Monitors and reports requirements for the University's compliance with federal and state regulations affecting state authorization of distance learning.
  • Collaborates with WKU administrative units to facilitate adoption of policies, procedures, and structures that support competency-based education programs.
  • Participates in and attends higher education association conferences and meetings as a WKU representative.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Skills Considered Essential for Success

  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of various forms of distance learning modalities experience with course management systems (e.g. Blackboard)
  • Must be able to organize, manage, and prioritize time and multiple projects effectively
  • Demonstrated planning and organization skills
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills to relate to a wide diversity of faculty, staff, and students.
  • Ability to interpret faculty and student needs and act accordingly (e.g respond in a timely manner, suggest a course of action, develop a process/practice)
  • Ability to develop productive working relationships with various higher education constituencies
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products.

Job Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree with a minimum of two years' experience in higher education outreach or administration.
  • Experience working in and extracting and analyzing data from enterprise systems (e.g. Banner, Infoview, Crystal Reports, etc.)
  • Experience with learning management systems (e.g. Blackboard)

Additional Information:


Salary Range: $57,000 - $63,000
