What are the responsibilities and job description for the CUSTODIAN position at Western Line School District?
Qualifications:
Demonstrates an aptitude or competence for assigned responsibilities.
Reports To: Principal & Assistant principal
Job Goal: To provide students with a safe, attractive, comfortable, clean, and efficient place in which to learn, play, and develop.
Performance Responsibilities:
- Keep building and premises, including sidewalks, driveways, and play areas, neat and clean at all times.
- Storage areas are to be kept in a neat and orderly condition.
- Shovels, or sands walks, driveways, parking areas, and steps, as appropriate during snow and Ice weather.
- Routinely check emergency doors to ensure they are locked from the outside, but will open from the inside in an emergency.
- Responsible for removing trash and garbage from the cafeteria each day and disposing of them in an appropriate manner.
- Sweeps classrooms daily and dusts furniture.
- Cleans corridors after school each day, and during the day when required.
- Scrubs, hoses down and disinfects toilet floors daily, and cleans all sanitary fixtures and drinking fountains daily (or more often if needed)
- Washes all windows on both the inside and outside at least twice each year, and more frequently if necessary.
- Keeps the grounds free from rubbish
- Keeps all floors in a clean and attractive condition and in a good state of preservation.
- Attends staff development training, as scheduled.
- Makes minor repairs when appropriate.
- Reports major repairs promptly to the principal.
- Checks lighting for needed replacement.
- Remains on the school premises during school hours, and during non-school hours when the use of the building has been authorized and extended work hours have been approved.
- Assumes responsibility for the opening and closing of the building each school day and for determining, before leaving, that all doors and windows are secured, and all lights, except those left on for safety reasons, are turned off.
- Keeps an inventory of supplies, equipment, and fuel on hand, and requisitions such needed replacements from the principal far enough in advance so that they may be delivered in such time as will not hinder the custodian’s work.
- Conducts an ongoing program of general upkeep and cleaning in all buildings in the school.
- Moves furniture or equipment within buildings as required for various activities and as directed by the principal.
- Maintains keys secure at all times.
- Complies with local laws and procedures for the storage and disposal of trash, rubbish, and waste.
- Assumes responsibility for the safe condition of the school building.
- Attends staff development programs, as required.
Terms of 12 Month Position. Salary to be established by the Board.
