Title: Transportation & Safety Director
Qualifications: 1. Administrative Certification from Mississippi Dept. of Education
2. Demonstrated aptitude or competence for assigned responsibilities
Reports To: Superintendent
Job Goal: 1. To keep the district’s vehicles in such a state of operating excellence that they present no problems or interruptions to the educational program.
2. Coordinate and supervise all bus driver routes, including substitute drivers, maps, record keeping, and professional development.
Performance Responsibilities:
- Supervises the diagnosing, assigning and the repairing of district automotive equipment.
- Maintains a current inventory of supplies and equipment
- Establishes an efficient and effective system of routine automotive maintenance and preventive care.
- Sets up and supervises a system for the receipt and issuance of parts and supplies and the keeping of records and inventories.
- Lay out, assign, supervise, and inspect the work of the mechanics in the overhaul and repair of district automotive equipment.
- Assist in the recruitment, screening, training, and evaluating of bus drivers and bus shop employees.
- Promotes high standards of safety & good housekeeping methods in all work-connected areas.
- Verifies time cards of bus shop employees.
- Submits and recommends purchases of new equipment and vehicles.
- Follows all purchasing procedures.
- Assists in the setting of school routes, including special education and technical center routes.
- Involved in the professional development of drivers, including setting the training up and participating in the training.
- Complete appropriate MDE paperwork.
- Completes district forms, including logs, gas, oil, and maintenance and accident reports.
- Follows all rules and regulations set by the Department of Transportation and the Mississippi Department of Education Safety and Transportation.
- Maintains appropriate certifications and training hours, as required.
- Works with Superintendent and Principals to ensure that necessary changes are made to the schedule or route when caused by adverse weather conditions or emergency situations.
- Provides annual evaluations for bus shop employees.
Terms of 12 Month Position. Salary to be established by the Board.
