General Summary
- Report and produce public radio news stories on general assignment, as well as features, investigative reporting and specials of regional and occasionally national importance.
Major Duties
- Reports local news content at desk and in the field, including newscast spots, feature stories, special series and recorded interviews aired during weekly programming on University’s station on-air, online and social media.
- Develops story ideas, gathers and organizes field and online research and data, filing Freedom of Information Act records requests as needed.
- Attends meetings, interviews and events. Takes photos as necessary; logs interviews; drafts and revises stories, verifies factual information, produces broadcast versions of stories; produces promotional spots and copy; produces web and social multimedia content.
- Report news for state network and national programming. Participates in newsroom editorial and planning meetings.
- Collaborates with other news organizations.
- Ensures all content produced meets University’s journalistic standards of accuracy, fairness, and balance.
- Compiles newscasts for broadcast from a range of sources.
- Hires, trains, evaluates, and supervises student employees.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in related field from an accredited institution.
- One year’s relevant experience.
- Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Ability to travel.
Desired Qualifications
- Successful previous public radio reporting and audio digital editing experience.
- Capacity to understand issues relevant to the region.
- Experience creating sound-rich, meaningful features for a public radio station.
- Experience editing audio files with the most recent version of Adobe Audition.
