PURPOSE STATEMENT
The general duties of an employee of Warrensburg Internal Medicine include adherence to all policies and procedures of WMMC and WIM. The employee is expected to maintain a high degree of professionalism and ethics. Employee will maintain strict confidentiality as dictated by HIPAA. The LPN is also responsible for assisting in the delivery of health care and patient care management.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Answer incoming nursing calls, real-time, and quickly call back any that have gone to voicemail. Providing information as requested and screening calls to the physician. Answering all calls and messages from patients with professionalism, courtesy, and respect.
FMLA / Short term disability / Leave and other paperwork needing completion for patients or clinic.
Write medical necessity letters.
Help get provider signatures on appropriate forms.
Help expedite referrals for patients quickly to other facilities or clinics.
Help type up encounter forms for upcoming clinics.
Perform selected nursing and administrative duties, and assist physicians as required.
Prepare patients for examination and treatment by escorting them from the waiting room to the exam room and taking histories and vital signs / phone triage.
Prepare, clean and maintain exam and treatment rooms.
Give injections and provide other patient care services as directed.
Maintain sample cabinet, administer medications per physician orders and phone in pharmacy orders as directed.
Prepare and maintain clinical supplies and equipment.
Assist with scheduling tests and treatments as needed.
Contribute to the development of policies and procedures as needed.
Assist patients in setting goals for self-management, teaching them how to do self-management tasks and report abnormal findings to their physician team.
Collaborate with the patient, physician, and other care team members in assessing the patient’s progress toward individual health care goals.
Assess barriers when patient has not met treatment goals, is not following treatment plan of care, or has not kept important appointments.
Participate in professional development activities and maintain professional affiliations.
Maintain strict confidentiality.
Treat staff, physicians, visitors and patients with dignity and respect.
Ensure adherence to all laws and regulations related to employment, OSHA, HIPAA, CLIA and other federal, state and WMMC compliance policies and procedures and promptly reports actual or potential wrongdoing.
Perform CLIA waived tests proficiently.
Receive and handle phone calls as directed by the physician.
Proper handling and storage of all sample medications that are stored in the office.
Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
Perform other essential duties as assigned.
Requirements :
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE / SKILL REQUIREMENTS
High school diploma or equivalent.
Current license / certification.
LPN- graduate from an accredited school and current state license.
One year of medical experience in a physician’s office or equivalent combination of training and experience.
Current BLS required.
Skill in identifying and resolving problems.
Knowledge of medical practice and care.
Knowledge of examination, diagnostic and treatment room procedures.
Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions.
Ability to assist in a variety of treatments and administration of medications.
Ability to take vital signs.
Skill in developing and maintaining clinical quality assurance.
Ability to maintain records and record test results.
Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures.
Ability to use good reasoning and judgment and react calmly in an emergency.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, coworkers and the public.
Ability to read, write and communicate effectively orally and in writing.
Proficiency in the operation of a computer keyboard.
Must be self-motivated and work within the established policies, procedures and practices prescribed by the hospital / clinic.
PHYSICAL / MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be able to sit and stand, intermittent 8 to 10 hours a day.
Must be able to use standard office equipment, including the telephone and computer keyboard.
Continuously works under pressure of near 100% accuracy while meeting inflexible deadlines.
Continuously utilizes manual / bi-manual dexterity, near vision, speech, and hearing.
Frequently stands, walks, sits and utilizes eye / hand coordination and color definition.
Occasionally reaches above shoulder, regularly required to life and / or carry up to 40 lbs.
Occasionally walks on uneven surfaces.
