Description

PURPOSE STATEMENT

The Clinical Nurse Coordinator (CNC) at Western Missouri Medical Center (WMMC) provides staff development expertise as an educator, consultant, facilitator, change agent, leader, and researcher. Each supports the development of the bedside nurse and fosters empowerment through knowledge to achieve excellence and standardization through the delivery of evidence- based nursing practice. This occurs through the facilitation of the educational process through assessment, development, planning, implementation and evaluation of competency assessment, continuing education, and leadership development. As a role model of professional behavior, the CNC is instrumental in creating a professional nursing climate within WMMC to meet the needs of the diverse departments.

Essential Functions

• Seek opportunities to develop staff in various roles.
• Lead committees, work groups and/or projects related to the implementation of educational activities.
• Serve as a role model for education and professional nursing practice.
• Serve as an educational consultant to facilities, task forces, committees, and projects relating to policy, procedure, and program development.
• Provide general competency courses, as well as ones specialized for specific areas.
• Conduct needs assessments annually.
• Develop/coordinate education plans related to the initial and ongoing competency validation.
• Support staff development with educational activities (which include remediation, certification, mentoring, life support, JCAHO requirements, product rollouts, etc.).
• Assist co-workers as needed/requested.
• Support the Medical Center’s Mission/Vision/Philosophy positively.
• Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
• Perform other essential duties as assigned.
  
  

Requirements

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILL REQUIREMENTS

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Graduate of accredited school of professional nursing.
• Currently licensed to practice as a professional Registered Nurse in the state of Missouri.
• BSN is required or obtained within 3 years of hire date.
• Have immediate experience of working for 3 years.
• Current BLS required.
• Current ACLS or obtain within 6 months.
• Current PALS or obtain within 6 months.
• Current TNCC or obtain within 6 months.
• Must be self-motivated and able to work within the established policies, procedures and practices prescribed by the hospital/clinic.
• Must be detail-oriented, analytical, and possess the ability to impact change and drive quality outcomes using data and multidisciplinary team.
  
  

Physical/Mental Requirements

• Must be able to sit and stand intermittently 10 to 12 hours a day.
• Must be able to use standard office equipment, including the telephone and computer keyboard.
• Continuously works under pressure of nearly 100% accuracy while meeting inflexible deadlines.
• Continuously utilizes manual/bi-manual dexterity, near vision, speech, and hearing.
• Frequently stands, walks, sits and utilizes eye/hand coordination and color definition.
• Occasionally reaches above shoulder, regularly required to lift and/or carry up to 40 lbs.
• Occasionally walks on uneven surfaces.
  
  

Supervisory Requirements

• Provides Education for Emergency Department staff.
• May provide Hospital wide education to all employees.
