PURPOSE STATEMENT
The Unit Secretary is non-licensed person who performs clerical unit tasks as requested.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Prepare medical records for discharge, new admissions, and transfers.
- Able to communicate information verbally and via messages in writing.
- Handle telephone communication with courtesy, accuracy, and respect for confidentiality.
- Perform clerical duties as requested.
- Possess a working knowledge of policies.
- Handle inquiries from public as needed.
- Assist co-workers as needed/ requested.
- Maintain an effective rapport with all customers.
- Support the Medical Center’s Mission/Vision/ philosophy positively.
- Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
- Perform other essential duties as assigned.
Shift Requirement
- 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILL REQUIREMENTS
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Preferred current Certified Nurse Assistant.
- Current BLS required.
- Previous experience in clerical tasks desired.
- Experience in computers desired.
- Medical Terminology an asset but not required.
- Good verbal communication a must.
- Must be self-motivated and have the ability to work within the established policies, procedures and practices prescribed by the hospital/clinic.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must be able to sit and stand, intermittent 8 to 12 hours a day.
- Must be able to use standard office equipment, including the telephone and computer keyboard.
- Continuously works under pressure of near 100% accuracy while meeting inflexible deadlines.
- Continuously utilizes manual/bi-manual dexterity, near vision, speech, and hearing.
- Frequently stands, walks, sits and utilizes eye/hand coordination and color definition.
- Occasionally reaches above shoulder, regularly required to lift and/or carry up to 35 lbs.
- Occasionally walks on uneven surfaces.
