Umialik Insurance Company, a member of the Western National Insurance Group, is seeking an Underwriting Associate who will assist our Commercial Lines Operations Team in profitable premium growth. Key responsibilities include policy processing and technical support for both new and renewal business. The individual who fills this position will operate under a designated level of authority while creating strong agency relationships.
What are the responsibilities and opportunities of this role?
- Assists underwriters in the daily underwriting and processing of new and renewal business, endorsements, and premium audit transactions.
- Uses established practices, processes, and procedures to renew and write new policies based on underwriting authority level.
- Makes decisions and recommendations for varied situations while applying judgment to interpret related information, policies, and procedures.
- Applies knowledge to help solve problems of relatively limited scope and complexity.
- Communicates with assigned agencies and underwriters, creating and delivering varied types of messages and information.
What are the must-have qualifications for a candidate?
- Knowledge of property-and-casualty industry practices, standards, and underwriting concepts.
- Proven analytical skills.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to multitask and solve basic problems.
- Strong negotiation and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to meet deadlines and manage time well.
- Bachelor’s degree in insurance or finance, or equivalent related experience.
What will our ideal candidate have?
- AU and / or INS certification preferred.
Compensation overview
The full hiring range for this role is $23.94 - $28.67, per hour. However, the base pay offered may vary depending on the job-related knowledge, skills, credentials, and experience of each candidate as well as other factors such as the scope and location of the role. Candidates looking for compensation outside of the posted range are encouraged to apply and will be considered based on their individual qualifications and / or may be considered for other positions.
