Job Summary
To serve as primary cashier and customer service liaison for the Business Office; to perform a variety of accounting tasks necessary for support of college purchasing and general ledger processes; to prepare correcting journal entries as required; to perform a variety of technical accounting duties relative to area of assignment; and to serve as backup to other accounting positions within the department. Must be familiar with college billing and refund policies, institutional, FERPA, and GLBA confidentiality regulations, and Federal Title IV cash management regulations.

- As primary cashier, receive and apply cash, check, credit card, and electronic payments for tuition, fees, bookstore charges, housing and meal plan charges, all miscellaneous and student activity payments, and third-party sponsor payments, as well as process all general receipts college wide; open and close the cashier window in accordance with posted hours of operation; safeguard cash and checks in the office at all times; work with various departments to ensure that student payments, non-student payments, deposits, etc. are posted according to departmental or customer intention; and disbursement of student refund checks, payroll checks, and accounts payable checks as directed.
- Serve as reconciler of credit cards, purchase cards, and merchant cards as assigned : work with faculty, students and administrators in completing documentation; verify accuracy of documentation and approvals received; troubleshoot and provide assistance when necessary; prepare general ledger entries and check requests.
- Review travel authorizations and expense reports for accuracy and approvals; work with faculty, staff, and administrators in completing documentation; and troubleshoot and provide assistance when necessary.
- Prepare assigned general ledger reconciliations.
- Data entry of journal entries into college financial software.
- Maintain work papers in preparation for annual audit.
- Assist with the departmental preparation and distribution of financial aid checks and verification forms.
- Assist with end of day balancing of cash drawer and preparation of cash boxes for college events.
- Provide clerical support including data entry, filing, copying and answering the phone; maintain a variety of records, reports and files.
- Assist in maintaining appropriate office supplies and materials; order new materials and supplies as necessary.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be :
Education :
Equivalent to an Associate's degree from an accredited college with major course work in accounting, business or a related field.
Experience :
Two years of increasingly responsible technical accounting experience.
License or Certificate
Possession of, or the ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record that does not exclude the driver from coverage under WNCC's vehicle insurance preferred.
