Job Summary

This posting is for current and future adjunct instructor positions. Please complete this application if you would like to be considered for the applicant pool. The pay for these positions may be paid per hour or per credit hour. The current hourly rate is typically $32 per hour. The current credit hour rate is typically $975 per credit hour.

Credentialing process is required and may include a background check and official education transcripts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Mastery of Subject Matter
    • Demonstrates thorough, accurate knowledge of the field and discipline
    • Connects subject matter with related fields
    • Stays current in subject matter through professional development, i.e. membership in professional organizations; attending professional meetings, conferences, or workshops; participating in webinars; completing courses, maintaining professional licensure, etc.
  • Teaching Performance
    • Plans, organizes, and employs instruction in ways that maximizes student learning and engagement including but not limited to strategies that communicate subject matter to students
    • Modifies, where appropriate, instructional methods and strategies to meet diverse students’ needs
    • Employs available instructional technology, i.e. the Internet, interactive technology, when appropriate
    • Encourages the development of communication skills and higher order critical thinking skills through appropriate assignments
    • Aligns activities with program and general education goals, course objectives, and student learning outcomes
    • Provides feedback regarding grades/progress to students in a timely fashion
    • Assigns reasonable course activities in terms of time required for student completion
  • Evaluation of Student Learning
    • Publishes student learning outcomes and course objectives as outlined in the master syllabi
    • Establishes and explains methods that measure student progress toward learning objectives
    • Provides students with clear information on how they will be assessed and graded
    • Evaluates student performance consistently in accordance with the evaluation section in the course syllabus
    • Maintains accurate, updated records of student progress in the institution’s learning management system
    • Conducts course, program, and general education assessments
  • Support of College Policies and Procedures
    • Prepares, distributes, and submits syllabi and approved course outlines for all assigned sections in accordance with program and divisional practices to the appropriate Division Chair and Educational Services
    • Maintains confidentiality of student information using FERPA guidelines
    • Exercises stewardship of college facilities and materials
    • Demonstrates sensitivity to student needs and circumstances and complies with requested/suggested accommodations
    • Uses the required WNCC learning management system
    • Reports attendance, mid-term, and final grade rosters to financial aid and the registrar each term according to established deadlines
  • Complies with the philosophy, policies, regulations, procedures, and announcements of the College as set forth in the Board Policy Manual, College Catalog, Student Handbook, Employee Handbook, and Adjunct Instructor Handbook
  • Submits institutional reports on students or directly addresses students who are academically at risk and/or who exhibit behavioral difficulties
  • Professionalism
    • Is punctual to class
    • Avoids cancelling classes
    • Maintains respectful attitude toward students and colleagues
    • Maintains proper and professional/personal boundaries between colleagues and students
    • Adheres to college policy and procedures in the use of social media both inside and outside the classroom.
    • Conducts self within federal and state standards/laws
    • Maintains professional appearance as defined by discipline
  • Participate in College, Division, and Program Activities
    • Responds in a timely fashion to information requests from College, division, and program administrators
    • Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills with students, colleagues, staff, and administrators
    • Other duties as assigned.

Required and Preferred Qualifications

Any equivalent combination of experience and education that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties as per Higher Learning Commission guidelines.


  • Transfer Courses
    • Instructors will hold a minimum of a master’s degree in the discipline or subfield
    • Instructors will meet minimum qualifications of a Master’s degree in the discipline or subfield or
    • Master’s degree in a closely related field with 18 graduate hours in the discipline or subfield
    • An academic degree relevant to what they are teaching and at least one level above the level at which they teach (Bachelor’s degree in field) AND a Master’s degree with 18 graduate hours in the discipline or subfield
  • Career and Technical Education Courses
    • Instructors will hold a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in the discipline or subfield and have two years of relevant experience or an associate’s degree and 5 years of relevant experience or no degree and 10 years’ experience plus any relevant industry credentials.
